ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Day 13 Review

Day 13 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup was supposed to be packed with two matches but the contest between Ireland and the USA was washed out without a ball bowled. The other game saw Afghanistan take on Papa New Guinea (PNG).

Afghanistan v Papa New Guinea

Afghanistan have been clinical in this tournament, and they recorded their third straight group stage win by beating PNG by seven wickets. The PNG batters never got going in the first innings as Fazalhaq Farooqi dominated yet again with the new ball. He picked up three wickets, conceding 16 runs in his quota of four overs.

Kiplin Doriga was the standout batter, making 26 runs of 32 balls. Chasing 96 was fairly simple in the end for the Agfghans despite losing their openers early. Gulbadin Naib put on 49 of 36, which covered more than half the runs needed by the chasing team to win this match.

Afghanistan have qualified along with West Indies for the Super Eights from Group C.

1st innings – 95 (PNG  in 19.5 overs)

2nd innings- 101/3 (Afghanistan in 15.1 overs)
