Day 4 of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup had just one game in store for viewers: India’s opener against Ireland. Here’s how it went.
India kick-started their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign with a comfortable eight-wicket win over Ireland.
With the Irish batting first, Jasprit Bumrah was the star, picking up two wickets and conceding just six runs in his three overs. All-rounder Hardik Pandya also helped out by earning himself three wickets in his quota of four overs.
The standout batter in the first innings was Gareth Delaney, whose quick-fire 26 off 14 got his team close to a score of 100. In reply, captain Rohit Sharma proved his class, while Virat Kohli perished for one run at the top of the order. The India skipper made 52 off 37 and was supported by wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who chipped in with a handy 36 off 26 upon his return to international cricket.
Ireland next play Canada as part of their group match on Friday (June 7), while India prepare to face arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday (June 9).
First innings score: Ireland 96/10 in 16 overs
