A battered and bruised Team India will look to get themselves back to winning ways as they pit their wits against a confident and unbeaten England side in front of a fully sold-out Indore crowd in Match 20 of the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
For the game, here we present our preview and predictions.
India’s failures in both batting and bowling departments are being exposed at the worst possible time. Their inability to bat out 50 overs in three of their four matches has seen them post totals that have proved 25–30 runs short. This was especially the case against Australia, where they failed to bat the full quota of 50 overs and eventually lost despite having scored 330 runs — a record chase from the Aussies.
For once, India’s batting turned up against Australia, with Smriti Mandhana, Pratika Rawal, Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Richa Ghosh all making telling contributions with the bat.
India’s team combination has been questioned in the last two games, as they have persisted with just five bowlers in their playing XI. Seamer Renuka Singh has been conspicuous by her absence in the games against South Africa and Australia.
England, on the other hand, have been rather consistent thus far, but even they will be aware of the fact that they scraped by the skin of their teeth against Pakistan and were very lucky to get away with a point due to inclement weather.
England’s batting showed cracks against Pakistan with an unsteadiness that belies their unbeaten record. The game against India also kick-starts a brutal run of fixtures that will see them face Australia and New Zealand, which means they know that they have their work cut out for them.
Despite suffering two losses on the trot, we believe India enter this match as favourites. With the Women in Blue’s recent series win against England, coupled with the latter’s unsteady batting performance against Pakistan, Harmanpreet Kaur & Co will fancy their chances of getting the much-needed two points.
Fantasy XI: Smriti Mandhana, Pratika Rawal, Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Nat Sciver-Brunt (c), Heather Knight, Richa Ghosh (wk), Deepti Sharma, Sophie Ecclestone, Amanjot Kaur, Kranti Gaud, Lauren Bell
Venue: Holkar Stadium, Indore
