ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 | Match 24: India vs New Zealand | Preview and Predictions

India and New Zealand face each other in a straight shoot-out for the last remaining semifinals spot in what is going to be a high-pressure and a high-stakes virtual quarterfinal in Match Number 24 of the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in Navi Mumbai.

Here is our Preview and Prediction for the game.

ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 | Match 24: India vs New Zealand | 15:00, October 23.

India seem to be on a mission to rain down on their own parade after losing three straight games that they should have been winning to put daylight between themselves and the rest. However, the defeat against England will stick out like a sore thumb purely due to the improbable manner in which they ended up losing the game.

In a game that they had by the scruff of the neck, needing 54 to win off 54 balls, India contrived to lose that game by 4 runs after giving England a sniff back in. It is not the first time that India have shot themselves in the foot from winning positions, with similar mistakes contributing to defeats against South Africa and Australia. Add to that the questions around the team combinations, there are a lot of dark clouds hanging over the Women in Blue as they look to seal their spot in the semis.

However, they could not have asked for a better place to play their game against their opponents. Navi Mumbai is a place where they have played international cricket quite often, and they are used to the conditions as well as the dimensions of the ground, which gives them an added advantage in the contest.

As far as the White Ferns are concerned, theirs has been a tournament mired with inconsistency and frustration. Sophie Devine has already gone on to voice her dismay at the rain interruptions that have been a constant theme in this year’s World Cup, leading to a number of games being curtailed or washed away. They know that a defeat to India will end their campaign and they will do anything and everything in their power to stop that from happening.

With potentially just two more games left in Sophie Devine’s illustrious WODI career before she hangs her boots from the format, expect her to have a massive say in this contest with both bat and ball.

Despite three straight losses, it is hard-pressed to not consider India as the favourites in this game. Their familiarity with the venue along with their batting order clicking at just about the right time, we believe India will be the eventual victors in this contest.

Fantasy 11: Smriti Mandhana, Sophie Devine ( c ), Pratika Rawal, Amelia Kerr, Harmanpreet Kaur, Richa Ghosh (wk), Brooke Halliday, Deepti Sharma, Jess Kerr, Sneh Rana, Eden Carson.

Venue: Dr D.Y. Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, India.

Winners Prediction: India.
