Indian Premier League 2025 | Match 41: SunRisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians | 19:30 IST, April 23
Last season’s runners-up are having a dismal campaign this time around. Second from last in the table, their highly explosive batting lineup has blown hot and cold this season. In their last game, the SunRisers lost to the same opposition they face next—the Mumbai Indians.
Last time out, batting first, SRH started brightly, with opener Abhishek Sharma giving them the impetus with a quick-fire 40 off 28. However, Travis Head struggled to score freely, and with Heinrich Klaasen (37 off 28) being the sole batter with a decent score, SRH could only trudge to a sub-par total of 162/5 on a batting-friendly Wankhede wicket. Will Jacks bowled a superb spell of 2/14 in his three overs, choking the SRH batters for runs.
In response, MI chased the total down with relative ease even though they lost six wickets during the chase. Openers Ryan Rickelton (31 off 23) and Rohit Sharma (26 off 16) gave the team a decent start before Jacks (36 off 26) and Suryakumar Yadav (26 off 15) made vital contributions. In the end, MI chased down the target in 18.1 overs, though SRH captain Pat Cummins did his best to make it difficult for them with figures of 3/26.
The five-time IPL champions seem to have turned their form around, having won three matches on the bounce. In their last game, they faced fellow five-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings, who are struggling this season.
Batting first, CSK opener Rachin Ravindra was dismissed cheaply but teenager Ayush Mhatre—making his IPL debut—impressed with a quick-fire 32 off 15, turning the momentum in his team’s favour. Ravindra Jadeja (53* off 35) and Shivam Dube (50 off 32) then ensured CSK reached a fighting total of 176/5 in their 20 overs, though MI’s Mitchell Santner (14/1 in 3 overs) and Jasprit Bumrah (25/2 in 4 overs) did their bit in making life tough for them.
In response, MI chased the runs at a canter, with Rohit Sharma (76* off 45) and Suryakumar Yadav (68* off 30) dispatching the CSK bowlers to all parts of the ground. They lost only one wicket during the chase and won the match with 26 balls to spare.
Given their recent form, the Mumbai Indians are looking formidable now that both their batting and bowling units have started to click. The return of Jasprit Bumrah to lead their fast-bowling attack is another major boost. With SRH struggling in both departments, this is MI’s match to lose.
