Match 63 of the 2025 Indian Premier League season will see the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals face off in what will be a straight shoot-out for the last playoff spot.
For the game, here are our preview and predictions.
The Mumbai Indians come into this game as the more confident side, despite their last-ball defeat to the Gujarat Titans in the game before the pause. They’re the more well-rounded side as well, with different players stepping up in different matches, while they’ll also be buoyed by the fact that all their key overseas players will be present for this match.
For MI, the equation is quite simple if they are to make the playoffs: win at least one of their next two games. They’ll look to get that win tomorrow itself to avoid any last-minute hiccups.
One concern MI will probably have is the inconsistent form of Rohit Sharma. While he has three 50+ scores to his name this season, he also has a slew of single-figure scores. With the game being played at the Wankhede featuring the newly-inaugurated Rohit Sharma Stand, the now-former India Test skipper will look to put on a show and get back to form.
The Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, have a lot of pressure on them ahead of this game—not only in terms of playoff qualification, but also because of the poor performance they displayed against the Gujarat Titans on Sunday. The fact that they lost by ten wickets despite putting up a 200+ total is a crushing psychological blow ahead of such a crucial game.
DC know that they cannot afford to make any mistakes against MI, who need only a small opening to inflict serious damage upon their opponents. Win, and they live to fight another day; lose, and their season ends on the spot.
Delhi will once again pin their hopes on KL Rahul, whose splendid century in the last game took them out of choppy waters and helped them post a good total. Rahul also enjoys batting against the Mumbai Indians in general, having scored three of his five IPL hundreds against the five-time champions.
It was the reverse fixture of this one earlier in the tournament that jolted MI back to life in the tournament. Ever since Mumbai handed Delhi their first loss of the season with a 12-run win, the two sides’ fortunes have been contrasting.
Both teams know what’s at stake, and the pressure will be evident as they walk onto the pitch. However, the scales are tilted towards the Mumbai Indians given their formidable home record and the Delhi Capitals’ poor performance over the last few games.
Fantasy XI: Ryan Rickelton, KL Rahul (c), Will Jacks, Suryakumar Yadav (vc), Tristan Stubbs, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, Naman Dhir, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult
Venue: Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
