Match 10 of the 2026 Indian Premier League season brings two teams with similar blueprints together at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, with Ishan Kishan’s SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) set to host Rishabh Pant’s Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Here, we present our preview and predictions for the game.
After suffering a big loss in their opening game, the SunRisers made a strong comeback in the last game. It was a resounding victory for the 2016 champions, who thumped the Kolkata Knight Riders by 65 runs away from home.
SRH’s dangerous opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head put up an 82-run stand inside six overs to give the team a dream start. However, three wickets in six balls threatened to derail their charge, before solid rebuilding work followed by a late flourish towards the end by Heinrich Klassen and Nitish Kumar Reddy helped the team post a competitive 226 on the board.
Although with a relatively weak bowling attack in the absence of Pat Cummins, the likes of Jaydev Unadkat and Harsh Dubey provided early breakthroughs to the SunRisers, while consistent wickets throughout the middle overs, along with some comical errors by the KKR batters while running, meant the SRH bowlers had very little to do towards the back end of the second innings.
Besides, the management will be pretty happy with how both Reddy and debutant Shivang Kumar bowled in the game, with the former also winning the Man of the Match award for his 39 runs and two wickets.
As for their opponents, the Lucknow Super Giants continued their poor form from last season in their season opener. It was a poor show from the team as they suffered a six-wicket loss against the Delhi Capitals. LSG struggled with the bat, scoring only 141 runs, and while the new-ball bowlers gave them a glimmer of hope, their middle-overs struggles meant DC chased down the target with relative ease.
Having promoted himself to the top of the order, pushing down the in-form Aiden Markram to No. 3 in the process, Rishabh Pant failed in the last game, albeit because of an unfortunate run-out. However, having taken such a huge call, the team are going to need him to deliver steady starts alongside Mitchell Marsh.
Coming in at No. 3, Aiden Markram will be the backbone of this LSG batting line-up and must build partnerships with Ayush Badoni and the hard-hitting Nicholas Pooran. The LSG management will also expect a strong showing from Abdul Samad, Mukul Choudhary, and Shahbaz Ahmed in the lower-middle order.
The bowling attack gave Super Giants fans some hope with a good show in the Powerplay. Mohammed Shami is the leading bowler in the attack and must deliver early breakthroughs alongside Prince Yadav. Coming back from a long injury lay-off, Mohsin Khan looked in fine rhythm, though the experienced Anrich Nortje, after his lacklustre showing against DC, will need to start delivering, given both Mayank Yadav and Avesh Khan are waiting in the wings.
Looking at the venue for this game, the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium is an excellent ground for batters. There isn’t much on this track for fast bowlers, who must bend their backs to do well. Spinners, however, have enjoyed the conditions and have had some success.
Last season, the average first-innings score here was 191 runs. This year, the team batting first will want to have somewhere around 220 on the board. Besides, contrary to popular belief, teams batting first here have won four of the last five games. We have had high-scoring matches that have seen the chasing teams struggle. Thus, both sides should take a cue from recent results and opt to bat first should they win the toss.
Looking ahead to this fixture, the defeat against DC not only hurt their confidence but also exposed several vulnerabilities in this LSG side. Their batting line-up needs to step up for them to stand any chance of competing in this contest.
The SunRisers Hyderabad, meanwhile, with their formidable batting line-up, will aim to make the most of the flat surface. It will be a close contest, but we’re backing the SunRisers to win this game.
