IPL 2026 | Match 51: DC vs KKR| Preview and Predictions

Match 51 of the 2026 Indian Premier League season will see a clash between two inconsistent and struggling sides in the tournament as the Delhi Capitals take on the Kolkata Knight Riders on 8th May.

Indian Premier League 2026 | Match 51: Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders | 19:30 IST, 8th May

The Delhi Capitals have been really inconsistent this season, not being able to string a run of wins. More than their bowling, their batting has disappointed the Delhi franchise. Currently sitting in seventh place in the league table, DC have now lost four out of their last five matches. On a day against the Punjab Kings when they scored 260+, it was their bowling that let them down and then against the Chennai Super Kings in their most recent encounter, the batters didn’t provide a competitive total for their bowlers to defend. DC also has the second worst net run-rate after the Lucknow Super Giants.

Whatever combination they have tried in batting hasn’t worked. Karun Nair’s inclusion hasn’t worked for them and whenever their top order of Pathum Nissanka, KL Rahul and Nitish Rana hasn’t delivered, their middle order hasn’t been able to handle the pressure or take the responsibility. Barring Tristan Stubbs, no middle order batter has performed consistently. Youngsters Sameer Rizvi, Ashutosh Sharma and Vipraj Nigam have also been underwhelming. With the return of Mitchell Starc, DC’s bowling attack has strengthened which was visible in the game against the Rajasthan Royals where he took early wickets and restricted them to a fairly chaseable target that helped the Capitals win.

However, the batting failure led to another loss against CSK. Even though it was a tricky wicket, DC should have gotten 30-40 runs more to make the game more competitive but losing wickets at regular intervals didn’t help them as they could only manage a paltry 155/7. In response, CSK chased it down with relative ease, losing only two wickets in the process.

As for the Kolkata Knight Riders, they were having a season to forget up until now but they seemed to have turned their form around with three consecutive wins. Like DC, KKR hasn’t been able to find a winning combination and their middle order batting has been struggling as well. Barring captain Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, the other batters haven’t really performed up to expectations. Their big money signing, Cameron Green hasn’t really taken the league by storm either and injuries to Harshit Rana, Matheesha Pathirana and Akash Deep has left them wanting in the bowling department. However, the last few games have seen improvements with Cameron Green and Rinku Singh making vital contributions.

We are all aware about their spin bowling strength with Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine but young Indian quicks Vaibhav Arora and Kartik Tyagi have also impressed with their pace and variation.

In their last fixture against a hard-hitting SRH, KKR bowlers led the way with wickets and restricted them to a measly 165 all out. In response, KKR chased it down comfortably with 16 balls to spare and seven wickets in hand. Rahane and Raghuvanshi again added the crucial runs in the top order with Rinku Singh applying the finishing touches.

Coming to this match-up, if we look at the form of the DC batters, if KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka don’t provide a decent start, DC could be in trouble against the wily spin duo of Narine and Chakaravarthy on a spin-friendly Delhi wicket. If the wicket is similar to the one we saw against CSK, DC will find it difficult to cope. Having said that, it wouldn’t be easy for the KKR batters to face the experienced pace duo of Mitchell Starc and Lungi Ngidi.

Both teams have issues with the middle and lower order batters being out of form and inconsistent. Difficult one to call but after a few defeats, DC would like to turn around their form at home and just because their batting and bowling are more balanced than KKR, we will predict DC to win this game.

Fantasy XI: KL Rahul (wk), Ajinkya Rahane(c), Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Tristan Stubbs, David Miller, Rinku Singh, Axar Patel, Sunil Narine, Kuldeep Yadav, Mitchell Starc, Lungi Ngidi.

Venue: Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi

Winner’s Prediction: Delhi Capitals
