We are in the business end of the tournament and we have two teams at two ends of the table fighting for a win for very different reasons. Gujarat Titans are looking to consolidate their place in the top 2 for a comfortable Playoffs run while Kolkata Knight Riders need to win all three of their remaining games to have any chance to make the Playoffs.
Here is the preview and prediction for match 60 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Gujarat Titans (GT).
One of the most balanced teams in the tournament, the IPL 2022 champions, Gujarat Titans are beginning to look like serious contenders as the tournament enters its business end. Led brilliantly by Indian Test and ODI captain Shubhman Gill, the Titans have one of the most dangerous top orders in the league consisting of Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler. Gill and Sudharsan have been in stellar form, providing the Titans with strong starts in almost every game. Buttler has been hot and cold and Gill and co. will hope he turns it around and finds more consistency. The middle order of the Titans was a problem at the start of the season with heavy reliability on the top three but Washington Sundar and Jason Holder finding some runs has helped the team finish well. The Titans still know that if their top order fails, the middle and lower order will be tested and haven’t been consistently performing.
With the ball, the Titans boast of the best new ball attack in the league consisting of Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj. Both have been miserly at the top with the new ball and regularly gotten breakthroughs. With the addition of Jason Holder, Gill has got an experienced middle over bowler and with Rashid Khan in fine rhythm, it’s a bowling attack to be wary of. Gujarat Titans though have a majority pace attack and in Kolkata, don’t be surprised if they bring in their spinners with Washington Sundar, Nishant Sindhu and Sai Kishore get some game time.
After getting outclassed by a quintessential Virat Kohli chase master-class, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are now in must-win territory and even that doesn’t guarantee them a spot in the Playoffs as they need other results to go their way. Well that’s for later, first things first, KKR need to win all three of their remaining games and the task is cut out for Ajinkya Rahane’s men. The batting showed some teeth against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Raipur but it was a very ordinary bowling effort from the bowlers. To make matters worse, one of their lead spinners, Varun Chakravarthy, who was just finding form after a rough start, suffered a hairline fracture on his toe and missed the last game. Chakravarthy’s presence for the Gujarat Titans game is unknown and if he does miss out, on a spin-friendly Eden Gardens pitch, KKR will miss him dearly. One of the positive signs with the ball though has been Kartik Tyagi, with the young pacer being their leading wicket-taker this season and has impressed all with his control, pace and consistency. At home, KKR will depend a lot on the likes of Sunil Narine, Anukul Roy, both of whom will have to step up in Chakravarthy’s absence. KKR also has another option in Rachin Ravindra, who can be brought in place of Rovman Powell if KKR are willing to add an extra spinner.
The batting has slowly shown some grit with Finn Allen finding runs and Angkrish Raghuvanshi has continued to grow with the young wicket-keeper batter being the not only KKR’s leading run scorer but also one of the only consistent batters. Ajinkya Rahane has continued to struggle and Rahane’s woes at the top has put more pressure on the likes of Allen and Raghuvanshi. Cameron Green is another one who has struggled and been unable to find consistency and convert his starts. Green has gotten quite a few 30s now but only crossed 50 once this season. The lower middle order for KKR is led by their vice-captain Rinku Singh, who has been one of their top batters along with Raghuvanshi and there is firepower with the likes of Powell and Narine.
The Eden Gardens this season has been a slow wicket and an anomaly given the high scoring nature of this year’s IPL. The spinners and slow bowlers will have a lot of purchase although the fast nature of the outfield and short boundaries means the batters will always be in play. KKR are coming off a loss and the Titans are in red-hot form but with them being in do-or-die territory and at home, we going a bit left-field with the prediction and going with Ajinkya Rahane’s boys to pick up a surprise win on conditions which will suit a bowling attack that prefers a slow and gripping surface.
