We are now firmly in the business end of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. In Match 60, we have two teams facing off looking to win for very different reasons.

The Gujarat Titans (GT) are looking to consolidate their place in the top two for a comfortable run in the play-offs, while the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) need to win all three of their remaining games to have any chance of making the play-offs.

Here, we present our preview and predictions for the game.

Indian Premier League 2026 | Match 60: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Gujarat Titans | 19:30 IST, May 16, 2026

One of the most balanced teams in the tournament, the Titans are beginning to look like serious contenders for the title as the tournament enters its business end.

Led brilliantly by India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill, the 2022 IPL champions have one of the most dangerous top batting orders in the league, comprising Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler. Gill and Sudharsan have been in stellar form, providing the team with strong starts in almost every game. Buttler has been a bit hot and cold, though, and the management will hope he turns his form around and finds more consistency.

The middle order was a problem at the start of the season, with the team relying heavily on the top three, but Washington Sundar and Jason Holder finding some runs has helped GT finish well. That said, they still know that the middle and lower orders haven’t been consistently performing, and things could become tricky if the top three fail to get going.

With the ball, the Titans boast the best new-ball attack in the league in Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj. Both have been miserly at the top with the new ball and regularly got breakthroughs. With the addition of Jason Holder, Gill has got an experienced middle-overs bowler as well, and with Rashid Khan in fine rhythm, GT have a bowling attack to be wary of. In Kolkata, don’t be surprised if GT bring in more spinners in Washington Sundar, Nishant Sindhu, and Sai Kishore.

As far as the Knight Riders are concerned, after getting outclassed by Virat Kohli, who delivered a quintessential masterclass of a chase, they are now in must-win territory, and even that doesn’t guarantee them a spot in the play-offs. They will need other results to go their way.

The task is cut out for Ajinkya Rahane’s men. KKR’s batting showed some teeth against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Raipur, but it was followed by a very ordinary bowling effort. To make matters worse, one of their lead spinners, Varun Chakravarthy, who was just finding form after a rough start, suffered a hairline fracture in his toe and missed the last game. Chakravarthy’s presence for the GT game is uncertain, and if he does miss out, on a spin-friendly Eden Gardens pitch no less, KKR will miss him dearly.

One positive sign with the ball, however, has been Kartik Tyagi. The young pacer has been the Knight Riders’ leading wicket-taker this season, having impressed all with his control, pace, and consistency. At home, KKR will depend a lot on the likes of Sunil Narine and Anukul Roy, both of whom will have to step up in Chakravarthy’s absence. KKR also have another option in Rachin Ravindra, who can be brought in place of Rovman Powell to add an extra spinner.

KKR’s batting has slowly shown some grit, with Finn Allen finding runs and Angkrish Raghuvanshi continuing to grow. The young wicketkeeper-batter is not only KKR’s leading run-scorer this season, but also one of their few consistent batters. Ajinkya Rahane has continued to struggle, and his woes at the top put more pressure on the likes of Allen and Raghuvanshi.

Cameron Green is another one who has struggled to find consistency and convert his starts. Green has managed quite a few 30s now but only crossed the 50-run mark once this season. The lower-middle order for KKR is led by their vice-captain Rinku Singh, who has been one of their top batters along with Raghuvanshi, while there is more firepower down the order thanks to the likes of Powell and Narine.

Eden Gardens this season has witnessed a slow wicket, which is an anomaly given the high-scoring nature of grounds in this year’s IPL. The spinners and slow bowlers will have a lot of purchase here, although the fast nature of the outfield and short boundaries mean the batters will always be in play.

KKR are coming into this game on the back of a loss, while the Titans are in red-hot form. However, given they are in do-or-die territory now, with this being a home game, we are going a bit left-field with our prediction and back Ajinkya Rahane & Co to pick up a surprise win on conditions that will suit a bowling attack that prefers a slow and gripping surface.

Fantasy XI: Shubman Gill (c), Finn Allen, Jos Buttler (wk), Cameron Green, Washington Sundar, Jason Holder, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine (vc), Anukul Roy, Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada

Venue: Eden Gardens, Kolkata
Winners Prediction: Kolkata Knight Riders
