Group F is all set to turn into a battlefield as Japan and Sweden battle against each other with both sides knowing that a win will send them through while defeat will see them look nervously over their shoulder as they look for other results to favour their quest for qualification to the next round.

Here is our Preview and Predictions for the game.

FIFA WC26 | Group F: JPN vs SWE | 04:30 IST, 26 June, 2026

Japan are absolutely living up to their reputation of Asia’s most formidable team and their performances have only gone ahead to cement that claim, while also putting further expectations of them making a deep run in the competition.

They were full value for their point against the Netherlands, taking the attack to their opponents and matching them shot for shot in what was one of the games of the tournament. They then continued to show why they are so highly-touted with a 4-0 drubbing of Tunisia where their movement and skill was at its finest.

The fact that Japan are able to put in performances like this despite losing their key attackers Kaoru Mitoma and Takefusa Kubo just goes to show the strength they have in numbers and how they make their team ethic their biggest ethos in competing against others in the biggest stage of them all.

One area where the Japanese have made a big improvement is their heading ability. Two games and they have had two goals scored from headers, making that a very useful weapon in their arsenal. Although, against a side as robust and tall as Sweden, expect that to be put to the test.

Sweden could not have asked for a campaign with the two performances they put up being polar opposites of each other. They started off with an absolute bang, taking Tunisia piece by piece as they helped themselves to a 5-1 win to kick off their World Cup in style. However, they took Marvel supervillain Thanos’ concept of things being perfectly balanced a little too seriously as they then fell to a 5-1 defeat against Netherlands.

However, there are a few chinks in the armour of the Swedes that need immediate work. For once, it is very clear that they work better when they are in a back 4 than a back 5. The moment they changed that system against Netherlands at 2-0 down they began playing better, even going on to dominate them for a brief spell.

Secondly, Sweden seem to be a little dysfunctional playing with two strikers upfront. Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak are excellent strikers in their own right, and have combined rather decently too, assisting each other, but playing them together makes them lighter on the wing, where the Dutch completely outplayed them. So it has to be either or, but cannot be both.

This group is one of the most open groups in the tournament, with 3 out of 4 sides in contention to top the group depending on the result swing. Both sides know that a win here makes things easy for them in terms of qualification and will look to go with the intention of getting all 3 points.

We believe that Japan are favourites to win this game against the Swedes and potentially even win the group.

Score Predictions: Japan 3-1 Sweden.

Venue: Dallas Stadium, Arlington.
