Lawson to continue with AlphaTauri till Ricciardo return

AlphaTauri have announced that Liam Lawson will continue to drive alongside Yuki Tsunoda until Daniel Ricciardo is fully fit to return to the team. Lawson will return to the grid for the Monza race after his maiden appearance at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix.

Daniel Ricciardo, who re-joined the AlphaTauri team two races before the summer break to replace Nyck de Vries, had an accident during the Free Practice session in Zandvoort, which ruled him out for the Dutch Grand Prix and saw Lawson make his F1 debut.

After a successful hand surgery, Ricciardo will now recover and hope to return soon, while Lawson races in his stead.

AlphaTauri released a statement, which read as follows:

We are delighted that Daniel’s surgery went well and that he is now on the road to recovery. We hope to see him at the track again very soon, but until he is fully fit, we can confirm that Liam, who did a good job in difficult circumstances in Zandvoort, will continue to drive alongside Yuki, starting from our home race this weekend in Monza.
