Maharashtra government launches Swachh Mukh Abhiyan with Sachin Tendulkar

Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar has been named the “Smile Ambassador” for the Maharashtra government’s “Swachh Mukh Abhiyan” initiative. In a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed for five years, the Maharashtra government has entrusted Tendulkar with the duty of promoting this programme as a goodwill ambassador.

The Department of Medical Education’s Oral Health Mission was created shortly after this MOU was signed. Due to various addictions, such as betel nuts and tobacco, oral problems and mouth cancer are becoming increasingly common among young people.

More people are needed to be aware of this, according to the administration. Following this, Tendulkar has been on-boarded to represent the Maharashtra government as a brand ambassador. On behalf of the Maharashtra government, he will be announcing public education regarding oral health and the exact locations of the camps as part of this agreement.

Speaking on the association, Sachin Tendulkar said:

When I started playing for India, I had just come out of school. I started getting many advertisement offers but my father told me never to promote tobacco products. I got many such offers but never accepted any of them. As I grew older, I became more aware of the need to be disciplined about my fitness since I realised that it won’t be possible to achieve your goals if you are not fit. Fifty per cent of the children have oral diseases, and it impacts their life. But nobody is bothered about it. Such a thing can damage their confidence.
