Earlier today, the news broke that Japanese tennis champion Naomi Osaka has been roped in as the newest brand ambassador of French fashion house, Louis Vuitton. The three-time Grand Slam winner, who is currently ranked third in the world, will appear in the brand’s Spring-Summer 2021 campaign by French fashion designer and Creative Director of LV, Nicolas Ghesquière.
While announcing this association, Louis Vuitton described Osaka as “multi-faceted, independent and modern,” and “perfectly incarnating the Louis Vuitton woman.”
“Aside from tennis, my most treasured passion is fashion, and there is no brand more iconic than Louis Vuitton,” says Osaka. “It is such an honour to work with Nicolas—he’s a designer I admire so much and we share a mutual love of Japanese culture and style. To become a global brand ambassador is truly a dream come true for me.”
Via her social media accounts, Osaka further expressed, “Funny story : I first bought my mom a LV bag when I was 16 as a birthday present and it’s kinda been a tradition since. Do I call this a full circle moment? Yes.”
Osaka was born in Japan to a Haitian father and a Japanese mother. Even though she grew up in the United States, she holds dual citizenship and decided to represent Japan ahead of the Tokyo Olympics 2021. Naomi has often used fashion to proudly celebrate her Japanese identity. In the past, she also collaborated with the Japanese brand label ADEAM for the collection that launched at New York Fashion Week.
Osaka enjoys a number of brand associations. Her endorsmenets kitty increased by manifolds after she won the 2018 US Open by beating Serena Williams. Nike, Nissin, ANA, bareMinerals, Citizen, MasterCard, Morinaga, Nissan, P&G, Shiseido, Yonex, BodyArmor and Wowow are some of the brands endorsed by Osaka.
