Napoli and Inter Milan brace for a glorious fight to the finish

The Serie A title race has just two games left, but those two games have the potential to throw up endless possibilities for the two teams involved in one of the hotly-fought title battles in recent years.

Napoli currently hold the top spot, but only just. They could have increased that gap to four points, if not for Genoa becoming party-spoilers.

The Grifone proved to be godsends for Inter Milan, who are just a point behind the Partenopei after winning their game against Torino.

Two games. One point. The battle for the Scudetto is at fever pitch.

For the vast majority of the season, Napoli have been the pace-setters in Serie A, led by the striking belligerence of Romelu Lukaku, the all-action brilliance of new signing Scott McTominay, and the skilful gliding of the Georgian wizard Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Even the latter’s departure has not proved much of a hurdle for the Neapolitans, who have kept on winning games and cementing their place at the top.

Despite the dominance, head coach Antonio Conte has time and again underplayed the team’s dominance, saying they have overachieved, especially given they finished tenth in the league last season.

Inter, on the other hand, deserve immense credit for putting up a legitimate title charge despite battling for trophies on three fronts. They were in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia, are one step away from being European champions after making the UEFA Champions League final, and are also looking to win Scudetto No. 21.

However, the next two weeks will determine which way the title goes. Inter have the tougher set of fixtures in comparison, having to play Lazio and Como, both of whom are in fine fettle in the closing stages of the season.

Lazio, especially, have Champions League aspirations of their own will not roll over easily. Como, under Cesc Fàbregas, will be looking to end the season on a high after exceeding expectations in what has been a remarkable return to the top flight after 21 years.

Napoli, on the other hand, will be facing two teams fighting for their lives to avoid the dreaded drop to Serie B. Both Parma and Cagliari will do their utmost best to ensure that they play top-flight football for another season.

So here we are then. Two teams. One point. Two more games to go. Inter are aiming for title #21, while Napoli will be looking to win Serie A for a second time in three years.

Grab your seats. It’s going to be a bumpy ride—but not for us.
