On June 20, an exciting Group F clash awaits us at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with European heavyweights Netherlands facing Sweden at Houston Stadium.
For the game, here we present our preview and prediction.
FIFA WC26 | Group F: NED vs SWE | 22:30 IST, June 20, 2026
The Netherlands opened their World Cup campaign with an entertaining 2–2 draw against Japan. The Dutch must be really disappointed with the result, as they could have grabbed all three points had they not conceded a late equaliser. Ryan Gravenberch was the creator of both goals for the Netherlands. Captain Virgil van Dijk opened the scoring, with Crysencio Summerville scoring the second goal, while Keito Nakamura and Daichi Kamada were on the scoresheet for Japan.
One noticeable issue with the Dutch was their attackers’ lack of creative output. Apart from the two goals, they hardly created any chances. The Netherlands also don’t possess a world-class striker in their ranks, which could prove fatal in the latter stages of the tournament. However, their defence looks solid thanks to the likes of Van Dijk, Jan Paul van Hecke, and Micky van de Ven, all of whom offer ample aerial threat.
Sweden, meanwhile, had a tough World Cup qualifying campaign, but they got off to a flying start in their opening game at the World Cup finals, thrashing Tunisia with a five-star performance. Forward Alexander Isak was the star of the show with a goal and two assists, while Yasin Ayari scored a brace and Viktor Gyökeres and Mattias Svanberg were also on the scoresheet.
Sweden boast a fantastic attacking line-up, especially the two strikers Isak and Gyökeres, who could be a nightmare for the Dutch defenders. Looking at the two sides’ respective openers, even though the Swedes faced relatively weaker opposition, they looked the better team thanks to a complete performance. If the Netherlands want to get to the knockouts, head coach Ronald Koeman will need to get his tactics, team selection, and substitutions right.
Sweden hold a slight edge here purely on the basis of their creative and attacking talent. However, if the Dutch defence can keep the Swedish attack at bay, the Oranje may have a chance, and their set-piece superiority could prove decisive. Our prediction here is a narrow win for Sweden.
Score Prediction: Netherlands 1–2 Sweden
Venue: Houston Stadium, Houston, Texas, USA
