Automobile manufacturer Porsche’s racing division Porsche Motorsport has announced the launch of the Porsche Coanda Esports Racing Team following a partnership with sim-racing esports company Coanda Esports. Coanda will be joining as the Official Esports Works Team for Porsche.
For Porsche, this is the company’s first-ever venture into the world of esports, having teased entrances earlier. The German car brand took part in the 2020 virtual edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and entered under the name of Porsche Esports Team with a roster mixed with virtual and real drivers. Porsche took part in the 2021 edition as well, finishing a successful second which helped Porsche move ahead with the decision to launch a full-time esports team.
The Porsche Coanda Esports Racing Team’s roster currently comprises Joshua Rogers, Mack Bakkum, Mitchell de Jong and Tommy Østgaard. Martin Krönke, meanwhile, will serve as the team’s Official Reserve Driver.
Philip Stamm, Team Principal for Porsche Coanda Esports Racing Team, commented:
“Of course, we have grown over the years. First with the simracing house, and earlier this year with the Coanda Esports Hub as a new facility for our drivers and in-house media production team. To take this next step together with Porsche is a dream come true for all of us.“
Marco Ujhasi, Head of Esports Porsche Motorsport, stated:
“The fact that Coanda is also included in the official team name is a matter of course, and it underlines the partnership at eye level. With the professional structures, the world’s best racers, and the overall Coanda package, we can’t imagine a better partner for our future in virtual motorsport.“
Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport, added:
“In the same way that we have found a perfect partner for our LMDh project in Penske, we are convinced that Coanda, as one of the most successful sim racing teams, is the right choice for us.“
Porsche already have their own simulation racing series known as the Porsche Tag Heuer Esports Supercup, which has a prize pool of US$200,000.
