Three players Liverpool should sign this summer

Liverpool ended the season in disappointing fashion. A side aiming to complete a remarkable feat, winning all the domestic trophies possible with a Champions League to top it off would have been simply incredible. However, Liverpool hearts were crushed on the last day of the league when Manchester City came from behind to beat Aston Villa and take the League title. Liverpool suffered a similar fate in the final of the Champions League in Paris when Real Madrid scored from one of their scant chances.
Liverpool in my opinion should not be looking to change drastically, but must just need a few tweaks here and there to help improve the side. The Liverpool side does still look quite good and could go on to have successful seasons in the coming years. The following signing could help strengthen their stronghold as one of the top clubs in Europe.
In this article, I list three players that I believe Liverpool should sign in this summer’s transfer window.

Jarrod Bowen

Jarrod Bowen could be just the player Liverpool needs as a long-term replacement in case Mohamed Salah chooses to move on. The Egyptian winger has been one of Liverpool’s best-ever players, racking up twenty-plus goals a season on a regular basis. The issue with Salah is that he moves into the last year of his agreement in the 2022/23 season. As we know, rival clubs make their moves to sign the player during this fragile period. In the event that Liverpool are unable to tie Salah down to a deal in the coming year, they could see their star walk away for free at the end of next season.

Jarrod Bowen could serve as a temporary as well as a long-term option for Liverpool. He could be just the backup for Mohamed Salah during the 2022/23 season and is more than capable of making the position his own in the absence of the Egyptian. Bowen scored twelve goals and provided ten assists for West Ham during the 2021/22 season, a number surely to improve if he plays in a team that creates far more chances.

In the event that Salah decides to leave, Bowen can surely play as a starter or at least fill in the role until Liverpool find a satisfactory replacement. However, Bowen will play a similar role in terms of cutting onto his left foot from the right-hand side and running in behind defenders.

Raphinha

An alternative wide player that Liverpool could look at for next season is the left-footed Brazilian Raphinha, who has become quite popular in the Premier League, leading to a host of clubs chasing his signature. Initially, it seemed like the winger would go to FC Barcelona, but that move looks unlikely as the days go by. If that move does not take place, it would be favourable for the Brazilian to join one of the top clubs in England.

Liverpool could do with a wide player who could take up the Salah role in his absence. He could also be used on the left side if need be. However, a left-footed winger would balance out the scales at Liverpool, with two wingers for each side.

However, the deal itself would not be straightforward. Liverpool will face competition from Arsenal who have been heavily linked with Raphinha. Moreover, Liverpool have also recently broken the bank to bring in Darwin Núñez from Benfica. Leeds reportedly want about €40 million for Raphinha. It will be interesting to see whether this particular area is addressed, given the fact that Liverpool might want to strengthen their creative midfield options as well.

Mason Mount

One could say that creative players in midfield are lacking in this Liverpool side. They have players who can spray the ball long and to an extent overlap each other’s attributes. Some may argue that a #10 is not needed for the system Jürgen Klopp employs. However, Mason Mount does not play the #10 role for Chelsea either, in a strict sense. He often drifts wide and operates from those positions. His role at Liverpool, of course, would have to be more central and focused on threading passes.

In terms of Liverpool’s actual interest in Mount, the Daily Mail reported that the Reds enquired about Mount and made an offer to Chelsea in early June. However, since then, there have been no reports concerning this particular move. Regardless, it is a player Liverpool could potentially consider given the nature of midfielders they employ.

In the event that both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson play, a creative midfielder would certainly help on the day. Apart from Harvey Elliot, Liverpool do lack attacking midfielders.
