Top 10 Lowest-Paid Footballers In La Liga

Teams in the bottom half of the La liga table have had their fair share of financial struggles over the last decade or so, with many of its talented stars leaving the shores for bigger wages, or getting poached by one of the three big dogs. 

But with all that struggle, how much are some of those lying at the foot of the wage bill making? In today’s listicle, we’ll take a look at the top 10 lowest-paid footballers in La Liga. 

Note: In line with the figures from Capology.com, we use Euro (€) as the currency and only profiles that have been verified have been considered for this list.

10. Matteo Gabbia | Villarreal

Gross p/w: €32,115 | Gross p/y: €1.67 million 

Matteo Gabbia is a promising centre-back, who’s on loan at Villareal from Serie A giants AC Milan. An AC Milan academy product, Gabbia has made 39 senior appearances for the Italian outfit before joining Villareal on a season-long loan deal in July 2023. With a gross salary of €32,115, the 24-year-old centre-back is the 10th lowest-paid player in La Liga. 

9. Aïssa Mandi | Villareal 

Gross p/w: €30,769 | Gross p/y: €1.6 million 

The Algerian international joined Villareal in July 2021, after five seasons with fellow La Liga club Real Betis. A strong centre-back who can also operate as a right-back if need be, Mandi is a regular starter for the Algerian national team. Tied to a four-year deal with Villareal until June 2025, the 32-year-old is currently paid €30,769 in wages. 

8. Gonzalo Villar | Granada 

Gross p/w: €29,615 | Gross p/y: €1.54 million 

Gonzalo Villar, a 25-year-old central midfielder, plays for La Liga outfit Granada CF. Following three loan spells with Getafe and Sampdoria, Villar joined Granada on a permanent deal in Aug 2023. With a weekly salary of €29,615, the Spaniard is eighth on our list. 

7. Chimy Ávila | Osasuna 

Gross p/w: €28,846 | Gross p/y: €1.5 million

Chimy Ávila is a 29-year-old Argentine forward who plays for La Liga club Osasuna. Since joining the club in 2019, Ávila has scored 23 goals in 87 appearances across all competitions. In Aug 2022, the Osasuna #9 signed a new four-year deal with the club, keeping him until June 26. 

6. Álvaro García | Rayo Vallecano 

Gross p/w: €27,885 | Gross p/y:€1.45 million 

Álvaro García comes in sixth place on our list. The 30-year-old attacking midfielder from Rayo Vallecano is currently tied to a five-year deal, with a weekly salary of €27,885. 

5. Falcao | Rayo Vallecano 

Gross p/w: €23,077 | Gross p/y: €1.2 million 

Often regarded as one of Columbia’s finest players of all time, the 37-year-old forward has plied his trades all over Europe before settling for Rayo Vallecano as one of the final stops before he finally hangs up his boots. The Columbian international joined Rayo on a free transfer in September 2021, on a three-year deal, with his gross salary of €23,077 making him the fifth-lowest-paid player in La Liga.

4. Rúben Garcia | Osasuna 

Gross p/w: €22,115 | Gross p/y: €1.15 million

Rúben Garcia has been a regular starter for the Basque club Osasuna ever since joining the club in October 2020. The 30-year-old left winger is currently tied to a four-year deal with the club which is set to expire by the end of this season. With a weekly salary of €22,115, Garcia is fourth on our list.

3. Jeremías Ledesma | Cádiz 

Gross p/w: €16,154 | Gross p/y: €840,000

Jeremías Ledesma, a 30-year-old Argentine goalkeeper, plays as a starting keeper for La Liga club Cádiz. Following eight seasons with the Argentine club Rosario Central, Ledesma joined Càdiz in 2021. As per reports, the 30-year-old signed a new three-year extension deal in August 2023, giving him a weekly salary of €16,154.

2. Stole Dimitrievski | Rayo Vallecano 

Gross p/w: €12,692 | Gross p/y: €660,000

Stole Dimitrievski is a 29-year-old North Macedonian goalkeeper who plays as a starting goalie for La Liga club Rayo Vallecano. In January 2020, Dimitrievski signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with Los Franjirrojos, on a weekly salary of €12,692, keeping him at the club until June 2024.

Gross p/w: €10,385 | Gross p/y: €540,000

Unai López is a 30-year-old professional Spanish midfielder who plays as a defensive midfielder for Rayo Vallecano. Tied to a two-year deal until June 2024, López is currently the lowest-paid player in La Liga with a weekly salary of €10,385.
