With the 2025/26 season drawing to a close, the summer frenzy is upon us, with transfer rumours galore. While many new contracts will be drawn up, some old ones will come to an end.
The Premier League is set to see some big names depart in the summer, a few of whom are at the end of their careers, while some might get an opportunity at other clubs.
Here, we present our pick of the top ten players set to become free agents after their current contracts expire on June 30, 2026.
An epitome of professionalism and longevity, tough as nails, and a great team man, James Milner has been one of a kind. They don’t really make them like him anymore. Winner of multiple trophies with Manchester City and Liverpool, Milner also represented the England national team 61 times.
The 40-year-old now has the record for most Premier League appearances (657), and doesn’t seem like it will be broken for a while. His contract with his current club, Brighton & Hove Albion, ends this summer.
While there has been no news of another contract extension, Brighton coach Fabian Hürzeler might consider giving him a year-long extension. However, nothing as such has been agreed yet.
West Ham’s veteran goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has been a great servant for the club, having joined in 2018. Fabianski joined the Hammers from Swansea, where he had spent four seasons. He also played for Arsenal, winning the FA Cup with them in 2014. The former Poland international has over 200 appearances with the Irons and won the UEFA Conference League with them in 2023.
Fabianski holds the record for most appearances by a Polish player in the Premier League. The veteran shot-stopper from Kostrzyn nad Odra is set to depart West Ham, having not been offered a new deal.
Whether the 41-year-old will retire from football or continue to play is not confirmed yet, but one thing is for certain: West Ham will definitely miss his experience and leadership at the back.
The longest-serving player at Everton, Séamus Coleman will leave this summer after 17 years of service, having made 433 appearances for the Toffees and captaining the club from August 2019 until now.
The Irish right-back has stayed with the club through thick and thin and was also part of the PFA Team of the Year in the 2013/14 season, having also won the Everton Player of the Year and Everton Supporters’ Player of the Year awards that same season.
The ageing fullback has been unlucky with injuries in recent seasons and has been relegated to the bench. While there is speculation that he may hang up his boots after the end of the 2025/26 season altogether and join David Moyes’ coaching staff, his Ireland national team coach Heimir Hallgrimsson is hoping he prolongs his playing career, believing he still has a lot to give to the national team.
As his contract expires this summer, Kieran Trippier is set to leave Newcastle after a fairly successful stint at St James’ Park, which saw him win the Carabao Cup and also help the Magpies qualify for the Champions League twice.
The 35-year-old fullback has also played at other Premier League clubs (Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Burnley). Apart from that, he also played for Spanish giants Atlético Madrid and won his first major trophy in the 2020/21 season by winning LaLiga with Los Colchoneros.
Trippier isn’t set to retire just yet, but there has also been no indication of where he will go next. There’s a chance that he will go to another league in Europe. What is for sure, though, is that he has been one of the top fullbacks in England, and Newcastle will certainly miss his quality and leadership in the squad.
After winning several major trophies with Spanish giants Real Madrid, Brazilian midfielder Casemiro arrived at Old Trafford with a huge reputation ahead of the 2022/23 season. The transfer fee was also quite exorbitant for a 30-year-old player and was reported to be £60 million plus £10 million in add-ons.
Since then, even though Man United have been underwhelming in the league, Casemiro has won domestic silverware with them (the EFL Cup in 2022/23 and the FA Cup in 2023/24), also earning a Europa League silver medal in 2024/25.
Casemiro is a defensive midfielder but has been very dangerous for United in the opposition box, often scoring important goals from set pieces. United announced in January that Casemiro will depart the club at the end of the 2025/26 season, with the two parties having mutually decided not to continue.
Former Liverpool academy product Harry Wilson is also set to depart Fulham after a period of five years. When he joined Fulham on an initial loan move, the Cottagers were in the Championship. They are Premier League regulars now, and Wilson has made a total of 179 appearances for them.
The Welshman has had his best season yet in Fulham colours, having registered 16 goals and assists combined in 31 league appearances.
It’s quite a surprise that Fulham haven’t yet managed to renew his contract. The 29-year-old is currently in talks with the club over a long-term deal, though it hasn’t amounted to anything and, as things stand, Wilson will leave Craven Cottage at the end of the season.
Looking at his development and performances in recent seasons, Wilson could be quite a bargain for any Premier League or European team who manage to secure his services.
Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi is another huge player set to depart on a free this summer. Senesi has been a pivotal player in the Cherries’ back line for the past four years.
The Argentine arrived at the Vitality ahead of the 2022/23 season from Feyenoord. After four fruitful years, the 28-year-old has decided not to sign a new contract with Bournemouth and will begin a new chapter elsewhere this summer.
Senesi will definitely have a lot of clubs courting him in the summer, with reports suggesting that Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea are all showing interest in him.
The fact that Senesi is Premier League-proven and is great on the ball on top of being a reliable defender will make him a great bargain signing in the summer for whoever manages to secure his signature.
Liverpool’s French centre-back Ibrahima Konaté is another key player who could possibly depart in the summer, with top European clubs interested in his services.
Since arriving at Anfield ahead of the 2021/22 season, Konaté has had a successful partnership with Virgil van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool’s defence. He has also won major silverware with Liverpool, including the FA Cup (2021/22), the Carabao Cup (2021/22 and 2023/24), and the Premier League (2024/25).
Liverpool have been in talks with Konaté over a new contract for the last 18 months, though there have been no breakthroughs. There had been rumours that linked him to Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, but there has been no confirmation on that front either.
Konaté and Liverpool have endured a tough Premier League season this time around and are currently fighting for Champions League qualification. With no news of a new contract, Konaté is now heading to the exit doors of Anfield, and we have no doubt that he will have some big clubs waiting in the wings.
Arguably Liverpool’s bargain signing of the past decade, Andy Robertson arrived at Anfield ahead of the 2017/18 season from Hull City for £8 million, and what a signing he turned out to be for Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool. With a new extension not being offered, Robertson is set to depart Liverpool after the completion of the 2025/26 season.
Robertson, alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold, formed one of the best fullback pairings in the Premier League and has gone on to register the second-most number of assists among defenders in the league. The veteran Scotsman has practically completed football with Liverpool, winning every possible club-level trophy with the Reds during his nine-year stay, having played more than 350 games.
There have been speculations hinting that Robertson has agreed to join Spurs if they manage to stay in the Premier League, but with the Lilywhites in the drop zone at the time of writing, he may move to another club, either in the league or elsewhere in Europe. Whatever happens, Robertson will leave Liverpool with an undeniable legacy as one of their finest left-backs and a fantastic leader.
Bernardo Silva has been one of Man City’s most influential players alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Agüero in the past decade, and City will dearly miss him as he has decided to move on after this season.
Having arrived from Monaco ahead of the 2017/18 season, Silva has made over 450 appearances for the Cityzens, winning multiple major titles (six Premier League medals, six League Cups, five FA Cups, the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League, and the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup). He departs the club as a certified legend for his massive contributions to City’s dominance in the Premier League.
He may have gotten slower in recent years with age, but Silva has shown this season again that he is still a force to be reckoned with and is currently helping Man City chase down Arsenal in an enthralling title race.
Although his next destination hasn’t been confirmed, there have been rumours linking him with Benfica, Barcelona, Juventus, and even the Saudi Pro League. Only time will tell where the talented Portuguese lands, but he is definitely going to be an asset for whichever side he joins.
