The Final of this year’s Women’s Premier League will be contested by the Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Cricket Stadium, Mumbai, on 15th March 2025.
It’s a repeat of the 2023 WPL final with the Delhi Capitals taking on Mumbai Indians. Like the 2023 season, Delhi Capitals yet again finished their league stage top of the points table and qualified straight into the final.
While the Mumbai Indians, as a result of losing both their league encounters against the Delhi Capitals as well as a defeat in their final league encounter against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, they had to play the Eliminator against the Gujarat Giants, which they won comprehensively.
There’s no doubt that these two franchises deserve their place in the final with most of their star players producing consistent performances throughout the season. Thus, there’s no surprise that both the highest run-getters’ and highest wicket-takers’ columns comprise heavily of MI and DC players.
However, looking at this fixture in isolation, there’s very little to choose between the two. But in the league stages, DC did get the better of MI on both occasions. That being said, Mumbai have played their last three games at the Brabourne Stadium while DC are yet to play in this ground. Thus, slightly tilting the balance in Mumbai’s favour.
The Brabourne Cricket Stadium has offered beautiful red soil wickets that are good for batting. Although seamers get a little bit of purchase from the surface early on, batters find more joy once they negate the new ball threat. Teams that have taken minimum risk during the powerplay overs, have ended up posting huge totals in these red soil wickets in Mumbai.
