WPL 2025 | Match 17: Delhi Capitals vs Gujarat Giants | Preview and Predictions

Match 17 of the 2025 Women’s Premier League season brings us a top-of-the-table clash between the high-flying Delhi Capitals and the Gujarat Giants, the latter having recently found form and a win away from grabbing a playoff spot.

Ahead of the game, here are our match preview and predictions.

WPL 2025 | Match 17: Delhi Capitals vs Gujarat Giants | 19:30 IST, March 7

The Gujarat Giants’ biggest turnaround in the last couple of games has been their bowlers. The likes of Deandra Dottin, Ashleigh Gardner, Kashvee Gautam, and Tanuja Kanwar were able to restrict the Royal Challengers Bengaluru to 125, while in their last game they were able to defend 185 against the UP Warriorz. With Mooney finding form with the bat alongside Harleen Deol, the Giants are slowly ticking off all the boxes and beginning to look like a well-oiled machine.

The Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, have won three games on the trot and could qualify for the final directly. Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma have been at their perilous best, providing the DC with the perfect start every innings, while Jess Jonassen and Annabel Sutherland have had good outings as well with the bat. Additionally, the Capitals have their veteran stars Marizanne Kapp and Shikha Pandey causing havoc up front with the new ball, with Sutherland and Jonassen being key in the middle overs, being economical and chipping in with breakthroughs whenever needed.

This is a clash of two teams that are hitting pitch-perfect form and should prove to be an exciting affair. With the Capitals having won the last encounter between the two, the Giants will have revenge in mind. With more at stake for Gardner & Co, we have the Giants as slight favourites for this game.

Fantasy XI: Meg Lanning, Shafali Verma, Beth Mooney, Ashleigh Gardner, Harleen Deol, Alice Capsey, Deandra Dottin, Jess Jonassen, Marizanne Kapp, Shikha Pandey, Kashvee Gautam

Winners Prediction: Gujarat Giants
Venue: Ekana Cricket Stadium B Ground, Lucknow
