The Gujarat Giants will face the UP Warriorz in Match 14 of the 2026 Women’s Premier League season on January 22, 2026, at the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium in Kotambi, Gujarat.
Here, we present our preview and predictions for the game.
Both teams have already met this season, with GG winning the tie at the end of a highly entertaining high-chase thriller by ten runs.
The Giants’ last game was against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on the same ground. Winning the toss, GG decided to bowl first. RCB lost a few early wickets before captain Smriti Mandhana (26 off 23) and Gautami Naik (73 off 55) stitched a vital partnership, before Richa Ghosh (27 off 20) and Radha Yadav (17 off 8) propelled the team to a highly competitive 178/6. For the Giants, Renuka Singh (1/23) and Sophie Devine (1/25) were economical but Kashvee Gautam and Ashleigh Gardner conceded one too many and couldn’t restrict RCB to a relatively small total.
In response, GG could never get going, with Lauren Bell and Sayali Satghare bowled impressively in the Powerplay. Openers Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine were dismissed cheaply, and only Anushka Sharma (18 off 20) and captain Ashleigh Gardner (54 off 43) offered some resistance to the superb RCB bowlers. The lower order couldn’t contribute much either, as GG ended up losing the match by 61 runs. Satghare (3/21) and Nadine de Klerk (2/17) were RCB’s top performers with the ball. This was the Giants’ third consecutive defeat after winning their first two games of the season.
As for the UP Warriorz, their season has been a complete contrast to that of the Giants. They lost their first three games but have some opposite momentum now with back-to-back wins, both of which have arrived against a strong Mumbai Indians side. In their last game against MI, the Warriorz batted first and posted a competitive total of 187/8. Captain Meg Lanning led from the front with 70 runs off 45 balls and was ably supported by compatriot Phoebe Litchfield (61 off 37) and Harleen Deol (25 runs off 16 balls). Amelia Kerr (3/28) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (2/22) were the pick of the MI bowlers.
In response, MI lost Haley Matthews, Sciver-Brunt, and Harmanpreet Kaur early, which made the chase difficult. Though Amelia Kerr (49* off 28) and Amanjot Kaur (41 off 24) somewhat reignited the chase, in the end, the target proved too much and MI ended up losing by 22 runs.
Coming to this game, while the UP Warriorz have gained momentum, the Gujarat Giants seem to be losing their way. With their top-order batters not being able to get going, the Giants are exposing their middle order too early and creating a lot of pressure on Ashleigh Gardner, who for the most part has been seen waging a lone battle.
As for the Warriorz, their captain getting back in form has been great news for them, and with both their batting and bowling attacks clicking, they are our favourites to win this match.
