Indian Premier League 2026 | Match 8: Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians | 15:30 IST, 4 April 2026
Both Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals have started the new IPL season on a winning note and will go into this game with a lot of confidence and belief.
MI played their opening encounter against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede in Mumbai. KKR batted first and set a massive total of 220/4 on a flat batting track. Fin Allen provided a blistering start (37 off 17 balls) with captain Ajinkya Rahane (67 off 40 balls) and youngster Angkrish Raghuvanshi (51 off 29 balls) helping KKR to a massive total. Barring Shardul Thakur who took three wickets for MI, the rest of the MI bowling went for a lot of runs, even the ever-reliable Jasprit Bumrah looked out of sorts.
In response, the MI opening pair of Rohit Sharma (78 off 38 balls) and Ryan Rickelton (81 off 43 balls) completely took the game away from the opposition with an incredible opening partnership. Though, MI did lose a couple of wickets in a heap later on but the damage had been done and captain Hardik Pandya took MI home in the end. None of the KKR bowlers were spared by Sharma and Rickelton and even such a huge total didn’t prove to be enough in front of the batting might of the Mumbai Indians.
As for DC, they played their opening encounter against the Lucknow Super Giants. Having won the toss, the Delhi Capitals put LSG in to bat. The DC bowlers put up a superb show, bowling LSG out for an under-par 141, with eight balls to spare. South African pacer Lungi Ngidi (3/27) and Indian bowlers T Natarajan (3/29) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/31) took wickets at regular intervals to keep the LSG batters under pressure. Only Mitchell Marsh and Abdul Samad made 30+ scores for the hosts.
In response, DC was stuttering at 25/4 inside the powerplay with the LSG pace bowling trio of Mohammed Shami, Prince Yadav and Mohsin Khan bowling superbly in tandem and troubling the DC batters with swing, variation and pace on a tricky Lucknow wicket. However, young Samir Rizvi (70 not out off 47 balls) and an in-form Tristan Stubbs (39 not out off 32 balls) forged a match-winning partnership of 119 runs, denying LSG another wicket. Both Rizvi and Stubbs showed maturity and started a bit slowly and after getting a hang of the wicket and the bowling, they both played their shots and chased the target comfortably in the end.
Coming to this DC vs MI match-up, both teams have quality players in their teams and have well-balanced sides. The Delhi wicket is a predominantly batter friendly wicket with small boundaries and more often it has witnessed high-scoring encounters. Hence, toss will be very crucial. Whichever side is batting first would need to post a 200+ total to even have a chance at a victory.
Difficult to call this but we believe just because of the quality and experience of the players in their squad, MI hold a slight edge in this encounter and could end up winning this match.
