For the game, here we present our preview and prediction.

FIFA WC26 | Round of 16: CAN vs MOR | 22:30 IST, July 4, 2026

Canada came through their Round of 32 fixture, narrowly defeating South Africa to proceed to the next round. It was a really tight and intense affair between the two sides but Canada prevailed in exciting fashion with midfielder Stephen Eustáquio scoring a stoppage-time winner to take his side into unchartered territory – the Round of 16. They did lose their home advantage in the group stage when they lost to Switzerland in their final group game. Jesse Marsch’s side has played with a lot of freedom, they have tried to attack and take risks instead of sitting back which has stood them in good stead so far. However, their opponents Morocco are one of the most improved sides in world football.

The Atlas Lions reached the semi-finals at the 2022 FIFA World Cup to everyone’s surprise but lost to France. However, they did achieve some superb results, upsetting European heavyweights Spain and Portugal in the knockouts earlier. They defeated Netherlands in the RO32 this time, scoring a late equaliser and then eventually winning 3-2 on penalties after extra-time. Even in regulation time, it was Morocco who created the better chances with the Dutch sitting back and soaking up the pressure. Morocco’s improvement as a team has now reached incredible levels and they have some really exciting mix of youth and experience in their squad.

Both teams have key performers who will be vital to their progression to the quarter-finals. Morocco don’t have any injuries but Canada will miss midfielder Ismaël Koné who was ruled out of the World Cup with a broken ankle in one of their group stage games.

Morocco will definitely be the favourites going into this fixture based on squad quality, form, their ranking and the fact that they beat a tough Netherlands side to progress to the RO16. Canada has done well under Jesse Marsch and a few of their forwards could pose a threat to the Moroccan defence with Jonathan David and Stephen Eustáquio, key players in the Canadian attack. Ismael Saibari, Brahim Díaz and Achraf Hakimi will be vital for Morocco in the build-up to their attack.

All things considered, we believe Morocco would still be too strong for Canada and will win this in a tight and edgy encounter.

Score Prediction: Canada 1-2 Morocco

Venue: Houston Stadium, Houston, Texas, USA
