Red Bull confirms Liam Lawson as stand-in driver for Spanish Grand Prix as Hadjar continues to recover

Red Bull Racing have announced that Liam Lawson will be racing for the team for a third consecutive race as their main driver Isack Hadjar continues to recover from a wrist injury. With Lawson driving for Red Bull, it also means that Yuki Tsunoda will also continue for a third consecutive race with Racing Bulls as Lawson’s replacement and will partner Arvid Lindblad. Lawson and Tsunoda will next be seen in action this weekend for the Spanish Grand Prix 2026 which will take place at the brand new Madring circuit. 

Hadjar hurt himself during the summer break, which forced him to miss the resumption of the Formula One 2026 season and Lawson was announced as his replacement for the Dutch Grand Prix 2026 to partner with Max Verstappen. Lawson managed a P7 in the Netherlands but a rough outing in Italy saw Lawson finish outside the points at P14. Tsunoda, meanwhile, has had promising races with Racing Bulls, filling in for Lawson at the team. After narrowly missing out on points in Zandvoort, Tsunoda scored his first points of the season in Italy with a P10 finish in Monza. 

Red Bull, released a statement that read,

“After racing for the team in Zandvoort and Monza, Liam will continue to drive alongside Max at this week’s Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid. The decision has been taken as Isack’s recovery continues to progress positively. While he is not yet ready to return to the cockpit, he will be in Madrid supporting the team. Everyone at Oracle Red Bull Racing looks forward to welcoming Isack back behind the wheel very soon.”
