WePlay announces charity initiative Play for Ukraine

Ukrainian tournament platform WePlay Compete has launched an esports charity initiative, Play for Ukraine, a series of online esports tournaments to support the Ukrainian army.

Play for Ukraine will have popular esports games such as Dota 2 and League of Legends tournaments. The prize money the players receive will be donated to various different organisations supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces. WePlay have also announced that players from all over the world can take part in the Play for Ukraine initiative except those from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus. WePlay also stated that the Play for Ukraine initiative would last till the end of the Russian invasion. 

Oleksii Nogin, Head of Tournaments at WePlay Holding, commented,

“As a company that has its roots in Ukraine, we want to support our country in these terrible times. Through our initiative, any esports fan can support Ukraine and contribute to our future victory.”

WePlay recently ended all its partnerships with Russian and Belarusian companies. Various esports companies and tournament organizers around the world have also put their foot down against Russian sponsors, teams, and athletes. BLAST and ESL bro announced that Russian teams would not be allowed to compete in their tournaments. ESL Pro League also stated that members of their Louvre Agreement would donate $125,000 for disaster relief in Ukraine.
