The captains of the franchise teams of Legends League Cricket have been revealed. Former Team India batter Gautam Gambhir will captain GMR Sportsline-owned India Capitals, while his former teammate Virender Sehwag will captain Adani-owned Gujarat Giants.

Because of the casual and audacious manner in which he batted, Sehwag has always been a fan favourite, still liked for his uppercuts and effortlessly-landed massive sixes.

On the other hand, Gambhir is one of India’s top run-scorers in the shortest format and was renowned for the legendary intensity he brought to his game.

Speaking about the competition, Virender Sehwag, captain of Adani Sportsline-owned Gujarat Giants, said:

“I am excited to get back to the Cricket ground again. Having Adani Group as Team Principal and a professional outfit like Gujarat Giants is a perfect way to kick start this cricketing innings once again. I have personally always believed in playing fearless cricket and I will continue to propagate the same brand of cricket here too. We are extremely excited and eagerly waiting for the draft to pick our team.”

Gautam Gambhir stated:

“I have always believed Cricket is a team game and a Captain is as good as his team. While I will be leading the India Capitals team, I will be pushing for a spirited team who are passionate and eager to go out and win as a team. I wish Legends League Cricket all the very best and am looking forward to the upcoming action.”

Raman Raheja, CEO and Co-Founder of Legends League Cricket, added:

“Having such heavyweight names as Captains for the franchises is a testament that our teams will go all out under the leadership of these batting greats, as they are currently preparing to pick their choice of cricketers to go with.”

The upcoming season of Legends League Cricket will consist of 16 matches between four teams. It will be played for the first time ever in India, across six different cities.

On September 16, 2022, the league will kick off at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Lucknow, New Delhi, Cuttack and Jodhpur are the other cities that will host games throughout the tournament. The venues for playoffs and finals have not yet been chosen. India Maharajas, Asia Lions and World Giants were the three teams that competed in the league’s debut season.
