Rahul Saha Rahul Saha

Over the last decade or so, Premier League clubs have taken over the transfer market, much of which is down to the huge broadcasting revenue they rake in each season. As a result, some of the finest footballers in the world have opted to dip a toe in this league and made it one the most-watched and most-followed leagues in the world.

Initially, it was just the traditional big-name clubs spending fortunes on transfer fees and salaries, but these days the league is filled with riches right down to the relegation contenders.

In this article, we look at the top 10 highest-paid players in the Premier League during the 2023/24 season.

Note: In line with the figures from Capology.com, we use the British Sterling Pound (£) as the currency, and transfers that took place till September 2023 have been fact-checked with other sources.

10. Kai Havertz | Arsenal FC

Top 10 Highest-Paid Footballers In The Premier League 10. Kai Havertz | Arsenal

Much was said when a young Kai Havertz joined Chelsea in the summer of 2020. However, after three somewhat uneventful seasons at Stamford Bridge, the now-24-year-old Germany international finds himself with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

With so much criticism around his signing, and him being the club’s highest earner, there will be a lot of finger-pointing at the Emirates in his direction if Havertz fails to deliver.

9. Jack Grealish | Manchester City FC

Gross p/w: £300,000 | Gross p/y: £15.6 million

After a subdued first season at the Etihad, like so many other high-profile acquisitions before him, Grealish finally hit his stride last season, playing a pivotal role in Manchester City becoming just the second English side to win a European treble.

Tied to a six-year deal he signed in August 2021, Grealish is currently being paid £300,000/week for his services by the Cityzens.

8. Marcus Rashford | Manchester United FC

Gross p/w: £300,000 | Gross p/y: £15.6 million

Following a career-best season under Erik ten Hag last season, the Manchester United forward was handed a new £300,000-a-week package on a five-year deal in July 2023.

There is hardly any forward who’s as lethal as Rashford when he’s on song, though recently there have been questions over his drive and work ethic.

With all the turmoil at Manchester United currently, some of the criticism and spotlight on Rashford seems unwarranted.

7. Bernardo Silva | Manchester City FC

Without a doubt one of the best attacking midfielders in the world, and a master technician just like his former teammate ?lkay Gündo?an, this 29-year-old Portuguese was seemingly on his way out of Man City, before some dilly-dallying ultimately resulted in a new three-year contract extension in August 2023, with the Cityzens offering £300,000-a-week to keep hold of one of their prized possessions.

6. Raheem Sterling | Chelsea FC

Gross p/w: £325,000 | Gross p/y: £16.9 million

Raheem Sterling’s move to Chelsea hasn’t quite materialised the way he would have envisaged it. Now in his second season with the club, the 28-year-old is yet to hit the heights or even come close to what he was consistently producing at Man City.

Although much of this can be attributed to the unsettled nature of his environs, being the highest-paid player at the club means people expect more from the four-time Premier League champion.

5. Raphaël Varane | Manchester United FC

Gross p/w: £340,000 | Gross p/y: £17.68 million

The signing of Raphaël Varane from Real Madrid was considered a real coup by many pundits and fans back in the summer of 2021. And, based on his performances last season, Varane is the closest Man United have come to filling the massive void left by club legends like Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidi?.

The 2018 World Cup-winning France international currently has two years left on his contract, with a gross weekly salary of £340,000.

4. Casemiro | Manchester United FC

Gross p/w: £350,000 | Gross p/y: £18.2 million

Casemiro joining Manchester United raised a lot of eyebrows. The five-time Champions League winner is still in his prime, and alongside Marcus Rashford, he was one of the key players who guided the Red Devils to a Carabao Cup triumph and UEFA Champions League qualification last season.

Casemiro has proven over the last 12 months that he has still got that steel and hunger in him to decide games for his team.

3. Mohamed Salah | Liverpool FC

Had the bid from Saudi Arabia arrived a month earlier, we could be seeing Salah tearing apart defences in the Saudi Pro League this season.

Now, though, with him deciding to stay at Liverpool for at least another season, it’s the Premier League and European clubs who are having to deal with Salah’s explosive pace and deadly finishing.

2. Erling Haaland | Manchester City FC

Gross p/w: £375,000 | Gross p/y: £19.5 million

The footballing world is yet to encounter a striker as clinical as Haaland. In his debut season with Manchester City, the Norway international scored a staggering 52 goals and provided nine assists from 53 games across all competitions. He was one of the key components in City’s Champions League triumph, and his 36 league goals broke the all-time record for the most goals scored in a single Premier League season.

With still four years remaining on Haaland’s current deal, expect the City hierarchy to tie down their star striker on an even bigger contract than his current £375,000-a-week one.

1. Kevin De Bruyne | Manchester City FC

Gross p/w: £400,000 | Gross p/y: £20.8 million

Top 10 Highest-Paid Footballers In The Premier League: 1. Kevin De Bruyne | Manchester City

The best attacking midfielder in the world, and that too by a comfortable margin, Kevin De Bruyne has always been a majestic technician in the middle of the park with his ability to produce something from absolutely nothing.

De Bruyne’s time under Pep Guardiola has made him the very best in his position. With a clinical striker like Haaland at his disposal, the Belgium international enjoyed one of his most productive campaigns last season, producing 10 goals and 28 assists from 49 appearances across all competitions.

Moreover, De Bruyne’s absence has been evident this season, with Man City struggling to create clear-cut chances the same way they were doing last season. Given what he brings to the table, no wonder City have De Bruyne on board as the highest-paid player in the Premier League.
