Asia Cup 2025

Asia Cup 2025 | Match 7: United Arab Emirates vs Oman | Preview and Predictions

The action continues in the 2025 Asia Cup, and we have a double-header on our hands. Match 7 will be the first of two games of the day, with the United Arab Emirates taking on Oman in Abu Dhabi on September 15.

For the game, here are our preview and predictions.

Asia Cup 2025 | Match 7: UAE vs OMA | 17:30 IST, September 15

Both teams come into the game on the back of big losses and are looking to pick up their first win of the tournament.

The UAE were up against India in their opener; it was a no-show from Muhammad Waseem & Co, as they went down easily to the defending champions. Put in to bat first, the UAE got off to a brisk start thanks to Alishan Sharafu and Muhammad Waseem but failed to capitalise on it. Once a Jasprit Bumrah yorker sent Sharafu back, the Emirati batting order capitulated like a house of cards. Barring the openers, no other batter even reached four runs, and the team were bundled out for an embarrassing 57. There was not much to defend for the bowlers, and Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill smashed their way to the target inside five overs.

Going forward, the batting for the UAE will be chiefly dependent on the likes of Waseem, Sharafu, and Asif Khan. Their bowling attack, comprising Junaid Siddique, Haider Ali, Muhammad Rohid, and Simranjeet Singh, has plenty of experience, which the team will need to keep their campaign alive.

Like the UAE, Oman also suffered a big loss in their opening game, going down to Pakistan by 93 runs. Oman started off well with the ball, keeping Pakistan in check on a slow wicket. Shah Faisal, Shakeel Ahmed, and Aamir Kaleem were economical and among the wickets. It was the batting, though, that let them down, as barring three batters no one else reached double digits.

On a slow Abu Dhabi wicket, it will be the battle of the spinners once again. The UAE’s batting depth should see them edge out Oman as the slight favourites in this one.

Fantasy XI: Alishan Sharafu, Muhammad Waseem, Jatinder Singh, Asif Khan, Hammad Mirza, Aamir Kaleem, Vinayak Shukla, Junaid Siddique, Simranjeet Singh, Shah Faisal, Shakeel Ahmed

Venue: Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi
Winners Prediction: UAE
