Asia Cup 2025 | Super Four: Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh | Preview and Predictions

With Sri Lanka picking up the win over Afghanistan in their Group B game at the Asia Cup 2025, the Super Four teams and schedule have been locked in, as we now know which four teams remain in contention for the title.

Ahead of the first Super Fours game, here is our match preview and predictions.

Asia Cup 2025 | Super Fours: SL vs BAN | 20:00 IST, September 20

Sri Lanka are the only team in Group B to qualify through with a clean 3-0 record. Their batting has been largely carried by their top order, who have been doing the heavy-lifting. Pathum Nissanka has continued to impress at the top and Kusal Medis, finally got runs and time out in the middle in their game against Afghanistan. The likes of Kamil Mishara, Kusal Perera, Charith Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka and Kamindu Mendis have all got some runs under their belt this tournament and with Wanindu Hasaranga coming in at no. 8, the Lankan team bats deep as well.

Sri Lanka have been tight with their ball with the likes of Nuwan Thushara, Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga being their key pieces in slow and turning conditions.

While Sri Lanka have been slowly getting all their disciplines gelling perfectly together, Bangladesh has been one team in Group B, who have started slow in all the games and have had to fight back to keep their heads above the water. The bowlers have gotten the job done for Bangladesh in most of their games with conditions being similar to home for them. The likes of Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mahedi Hasan, have given nothing away while regularly chipping in with wickets.

The batting hasn’t been most fluent for Bangladesh with Bangladesh trying out two different opening pairs in their three matches. With the opening pair of Parvez Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan not working out, the Bengal Tigers tried out Saif Hasan with Tanzid Hasan in their last game and they provided a quick-fire 63 run opening partnership. Their captain Litton Das has been their mainstay with the bat, but moving into the deeper stages of the event, Bangladesh will expect the likes of Towhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali and Shamim Hossain, all three of whom have had a hit out in the tournament, to step up with the bat.

The two teams have already met once previously in the tournament, with Sri Lanka picking up a comfortable win. At the Dubai ground, which has been slow and gripping, it will be the slower bowlers coming into play with both teams boasting of attack for the specific conditions. It hasn’t been easy to get a big score either, with runs being hard to come by on tough batting conditions. Expect a tight and close encounter between these two Asian powerhouses with Sri Lanka’s all-round prowess giving them a slight edge in this game.

Fantasy XI: Litton Das, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Towhid Hridoy, Kusal Perera, Mahedi Hasani, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dasun Shanaka, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Nuwan Thushara

Venue: Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai

Winners Prediction: Sri Lanka
