Australia vs South Africa 2025 | 2nd T20I Preview and Predictions

The hosts stole a win from the jaws of defeat in the opening T20I and will be looking to seal the series in the second game.

Last year’s T20 World Cup runners-up, meanwhile, will be looking to tie up the series after a promising outing in the opening game despite a couple of brazen errors that cost them the game.

Here are our preview and predictions for the second T20I between Australia and South Africa.

Australia vs South Africa 2nd T20I | South Africa tour of Australia 2025 | 14:45 IST, August 12

Despite a batting failure at the top of the order, which left them struggling at 75/6, the power-hitting Tim David — supported by Cameron Green — helped the Aussies reach a respectable score of 178. It was their bowling, however, that helped them secure the win. Seamers Josh Hazlewood and Ben Dwarshuis were economical and among the wickets on a track that had the ball flying out of the park.

The visitors, meanwhile, fumbled with the bat — apart from Ryan Rickelton’s fighting 71. South Africa were 120/3 before the middle and lower orders collapsed and failed to bring out the big shots at the end like Australia. Only two sixes were hit across the Proteas innings, which proved to be the deciding factor. South Africa’s bowling and fielding was average; the bowlers had an off-day, while the fielders had a horrid time and dropped a total of four catches. Aside from Senuran Muthusamy and Kwena Maphaka, the rest of the SA bowlers went all over the park, unable to plan against Australia’s power hitting.

The win in the first T20I makes it nine wins in a row for Australia; their recent power-attack approach seems like it’s beginning to work. Two games in three days on the same strip means that the wicket will be a bit worn out, which should bode well for the spinners. Expect another high-scoring encounter, as we hand the hosts the edge to win the game and seal the series.

Fantasy XI: Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, Dewald Brevis, Cameron Green, Tristan Stubbs, Tim David, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Hazlewood, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi

Venue: Marrara Oval, Darwin, Northern Territory
Winners Prediction: Australia
