Australian Grand Prix extended till 2037

The Australian Grand Prix is set to remain on the Formula One calendar, following a two-year extension between the Victoria State Government and Formula One.

The Australian Grand Prix was set to remain on the F1 calendar until 2035 after a ten-year agreement was signed earlier this year. The race in Melbourne will be hosting the season-opener on four occasions between 2024 and 2037, but the 2024 season is set to get underway in Saudi Arabia. Although Australia will continue to be the home for the season-openers, the 2024 season will have the season starting in Saudi Arabia because of the dates for Ramadan.

The Australian Grand Prix, which returned to the calendar after cancellations in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19, saw a record-breaking 420,000 people attending. The organisers are hoping for a bigger crowd in 2023, when the race takes place on April 2.

Steve Dimopoulos, Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, said:

We’re backing a summer like no other with a spectacular offering of major events and activities.

Andrew Westacott, Chief Executive, Australian Grand Prix Corporation, stated:

To have secured what is now 15 years of further tenure for the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne is an outstanding outcome.

It provides so many benefits to our city, our economy and our exceptional events industry, not to mention the aspiration it provides to young Australians pursuing their dreams in motorsport.
