BCCI inks a deal with UK based company Sportsradar

BCCI to put a stop on corrupt betting practices

The BCCI has come up with a way to keep the betting frauds and irregularities to stop in the 2020 Indian Premier League by deciding to put its Anti-Corruption Unit to task. This unit of the BCCI has to make sure no illegal practices are being carried on when the 13th edition of the IPL is ongoing. BCCI has inked a deal with UK based company Sportsradar which will provide it’s ‘Integrity services’ to help detect any betting irregularity or any such activity which might be related to a betting fraud in the IPL 2020.

According to Sportradar, the integrity services which will be put to test contain a Fraud Detection System (FDS) which “is a unique service that identifies betting-related manipulation in sport. This is possible due to the FDS”s sophisticated algorithms and constantly maintained database of odds which are leveraged for the purpose of detecting match-fixing.”

The UK company has already worked with some of the major associations like FIFA, UEFA and various other leagues in the world. They have also red flagged many games in the Goa football league where many suspicions of illegal betting and fraud had come up. As far as cricket is concerned, the company has in recent times, seen betting irregularities in state T20 leagues like the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) due to which a major betting company had stopped taking bets to prevent unusual bets and to be safe from betting frauds.

The company also has to be aware of the fantasy gaming platforms and include them in their checking too. The algorithms being used for checking are really efficient and has ‘25 Live alerts’ due to which any irregular bets being placed during the live game can be detected and flagged as well. The system can even flag the unusual change in pre match odds if they are seen to be shifting more than their pre-defined parameter.

The Sportsradar company will be at it’s best when they work for the world’s richest cricket board and were confident in doing so as their MD Andreas Krannich said: “We know that the BCCI takes integrity seriously, and we look forward to working alongside them throughout the tournament and providing our support to their integrity programme.”

With the past altercations with betting frauds in mind, BCCI has taken the right step to help prevent illegal betting frauds in the country and to ensure a problem free IPL season in the UAE this year.
