Champions Trophy 2025:  Five Allrounders To Watch Out For

In this article, we take a look at the five allrounders who can make a difference in Champions Trophy 2025.

Glenn Maxwell

The 36-year-old allrounder from Melbourne, Victoria, has been a polarising figure in the world of cricket for over a decade now. Known for his exceptional power-hitting and energetic fielding, Glenn Maxwell has terrorised oppositions with his explosive batting. While inconsistencies have plagued him throughout his cricket career, however, in the recent years, towards the twilight of his career, Maxwell has brought some reliability to his game.

During last year’s ODI World Cup win in India, Maxwell scored 400 runs in nine innings, as well as picking up six wickets, including the match-altering wicket of Rohit Sharma in the final. In the recently concluded Big Bash League in Australia, the 36-year-old exhibited his explosive power-hitting, scoring 325 runs in nine innings at a strike-rate of 187. On his day, he can take the match away from any opposition and his recent form suggests Australia can count on him.

Marco Jensen

The tall 6’8” South African has been climbing the steps of international cricket steadily. From being an inconsistent and wayward bowler to becoming one of the lead bowlers in the South Africa squad, Marco Jensen has become a mainstay for SA. Moreover, in recent years, the 24-year-old has worked on his batting capabilities and can now contribute with both bat and ball.

During the 2023 Cricket World Cup, Jensen scored 157 runs and picked up 17 wickets, emerging as one of South Africa’s most dependable players. The 24-year-old was in great form for South Africa in their recent series against Pakistan. Jensen is currently playing in the SA20 League, where he has scored 164 runs and picked up 12 wickets in eight league games.

Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja was the highest wicket-taker during the 2013 Champions Trophy, the last time India won this tournament. Since then, the 36-year-old left-hander from Saurashtra has established his place as one of the modern greats. His ability to win matches for his country, both with bat and ball, as well as his fielding abilities, is second to none. His slow left-arm spin will be an asset in the UAE. Moreover, coming in at #7, he possesses the maturity to both provide the finishing hand or take things deep.

Looking at his records since the 2023 Cricket World Cup, Jadeja has starred with both bat and ball across formats. Although the 36-year-old hasn’t played a single ODI game since the World Cup, he has shown decent form in both red-ball and T20 cricket. Recently, in a First Class match against Delhi, the left-arm spinner picked up 12 wickets, taking 5-fers in both innings.

Rashid Khan

A leg spinner who has reinvented the art with his unique action, Rashid Khan is a rare breed of cricketer. The 26-year-old is currently the #1 ranked bowler in the world. His bags of trickery and speed through the air makes it different for batters to adjust to his lengths. Having played 111 ODIs for Afghanistan, the 26-year-old has picked up 198 at an average of just 19.87. The fact that his career economy rate is still just 4.2, is a testament to his greatness.

Since the 2023 CWC, Rashid has played six one day internationals for Afghanistan and has picked up 15 wickets across those games. Moreover, coming in at #8, Rashid adds valuable runs lower down the order. Placed alongside Australia, England and South Africa in Group B, teams who have traditionally struggled against Rashid, the 26-year-old will play a big role if Afghanistan are to go deep this time around.

Hardik Pandya

On 19th October 2023, Hardik Pandya pulled out of the 2023 CWC due to an ankle injury. On 29th June 2023, Hardik Pandya pulled off one of the greatest T20 bowling spells to win India their first ICC trophy since 2013. In-between those two events there was all the IPL captaincy drama, fans turning against him, and personal issues; which makes his contribution all the more glittery.

A vital cog in the Indian set-up, Hardik Pandya’s form and fitness is every Indian’s biggest concern. A genuine fast bowling allrounder, who can win matches for his team single handedly, there are very few allrounders who are as crucial to their team’s cause as Hardik. In the lead up to the marquee tournament, the 31-year-old has been in fine form in the domestic circuit. Playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he scored 247 runs in seven innings at a strike-rate of 193 and picked up six wickets playing for Baroda.
