Colombia have already qualified for the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup following two wins in two and may look to take things easy in their final game. However, that is not the case for Portugal, who will be looking to win this game and finish as group winners rather than finishing second in their group.
For the game, here we present our preview and prediction.
Colombia have secured knockout qualification, but coach Néstor Lorenzo will not risk taking it too easy and will want to ensure that his side finish at the top of the group come the end of this fixture to potentially end on a favourable side of the draw.
La Tricolor have been good value for their performances thus far, which was especially the case against the DR Congo, against whom they were not deterred by the low block and continued to take the attack to them until they eventually found the goal to take the win and the three points. Luis Díaz was magnificent in that game and was very unfortunate to see both his goals ruled out for very marginal offside calls. Getting into form at just the right time, he will look to set the record straight against Portugal.
Portugal, meanwhile, bounced back from their frustrating draw against the DR Congo by trouncing Uzbekistan 5–0, in a game where you could see the team playing with a sense of sync and cohesion that was absent in the first game.
Cristiano Ronaldo bounced back in emphatic fashion after being the butt of several jokes following his abysmal performance in the first game. His brace not only set Portugal up nicely, but also made him the only man to score in six World Cups as well. The rest of the attackers chipped in with goals and assists as well and are shaping up rather nicely to put their best foot forward in the knockout stage.
Both squads have a clean bill of health in terms of injury and suspension problems, which means both will be putting out full-strength sides to hopefully set up a game full of goals and excitement.
Despite Colombia currently being on top of the group and putting in some good performances, we believe that Portugal are definitely the favourites for the win here and will secure the victory to finish top of the group. Expect Cristiano Ronaldo to be among the goals once again.
Score Predictions: Colombia 1–3 Portugal
