Spanish football league LaLiga has announced a licencing agreement with Valencia-based Spanish technology company StadioPlus. The deal will see the two parties collaborate over a Decentraland metaverse project.
StadioPlus, a company that mainly provides NFT collectibles in sports-related properties, has been granted the licence to access LaLiga’s trademark and other intellectual property for commercial purposes in Decentraland. A number of LaLiga-themed land parcels will be developed in the Vegas City neighbourhood of Decentraland as part of the agreement, which is intended to expand LaLiga’s reach with the Gen Z viewers.
Commenting on the deal, Stephen Ibbotson, LaLiga’s Head of franchises and licensing, said:
“For LaLiga it is essential to continue innovating in ways to offer the best of the competition to our fans, both on and off the pitch.
“This licensing agreement will allow us to reach a new and significant audience, like that of Decentraland.”
Jon Fatelevich, StadioPlus Chief Executive, added:
“StadioPlus is on a mission to be the bridge between the sports industry and the future.
“Therefore, we are delighted to have reached this agreement with LaLiga, with whom we have been working together for many months on the development and integration of the competition in Decentraland, and we are confident that we will provide a great experience for football fans and Web3 fans alike.”
