African side DR Congo will face debutants Uzbekistan in their last group stage fixture on 28th June at the Atlanta Stadium in USA.

Returning to the World Cup stage after five decades has been a decent outing so far for DR Congo as they earned a valuable point against European giants Portugal and lost narrowly to Columbia. However, they have an outside chance of qualifying if they win this game. Their game against Columbia was a tough one as they were on the defensive most of the game. However, they presented a resolute picture against an attacking Columbia side who were frustrated and could only score one goal which came from fullback Daniel Muñoz. 

As for their opponents in this game, debutants Uzbekistan haven’t fared well and would need to improve further if they want to compete on the biggest stages. Uzbekistan came into this World Cup on a two-game losing streak which has now extended to four games as they lost both to Columbia and Portugal and by a heavy margin too. The Uzbeks couldn’t control the game against a rampant Portuguese who were desperate to win as they had drawn their first game. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace with Nuno Mendes and Raphael Leão also on the scoresheet. Abduvohid Nematov put one into his own goal as Portugal scored five and knocked Uzbekistan out of the tournament. 

Both teams have fully fit squads for this final group stage fixture. This is a game where DR Congo can show their attacking intent instead of deep defending and exploit Uzbekistan’s vulnerable backline which has conceded eight goals in two games. Yoane Wissa would be key to DR Congo’s slim chances of making the knockouts. The Leopards will have to be wary of young Abbosbek Fayzullayev as he has already scored Uzbekistan’s first goal at this World Cup and could prove to be a tricky customer. 

This is a tough game to call but we believe DR Congo can get a narrow win here and keep their chances of knockout qualification alive.
