Ecuador will face World Cup debutants Curaçao in their second game in this Group E encounter at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be played on June 21 at Kansas City Stadium.
For the game, here we present our preview and prediction.
Both Ecuador and Curaçao are going into this fixture after suffering defeat in their opening encounters. While an in-form Ecuador were stunned 1–0 by Côte d’Ivoire, Curaçao suffered a massive 7–1 thumping at the hands of Germany.
The Ecuadorians possess a solid defensive unit and do not concede goals easily, but they do have problems upfront. Ivory Coast, too, have a solid defensive unit that didn’t concede a single goal throughout their World Cup qualifying campaign, so a tight game was expected. Both teams lacked the cutting edge as the woodwork saved both of them quite a few times.
Ivorian winger Yan Diomande was a constant threat for Ecuador, while Moisés Caicedo commanded control in the middle of the park for La Tri. Just when it seemed the game was petering towards a stalemate, Ivory Coast delivered the telling blow in the 90th minute, with substitute Amad Diallo scoring the winner and grabbing three massive points for his side.
Curaçao, meanwhile, were thrashed by title contenders Germany. Playing against a strong attacking outfit, they did well to control the damage in the first 20 minutes. Even though Germany raced into an early lead, Curaçao responded well to equalise, but after that it was a one-sided encounter as the Germans launched wave after wave of attacks.
The game saw six different scorers from Die Mannschaft. Kai Havertz led the line with a brace, with Nico Schlotterbeck, Felix Nmecha, Jamal Musiala, Deniz Undav, and Nathaniel Brown being the other goalscorers. Livano Comenencia became the first scorer for Curaçao in a World Cup game.
Ecuador are the overwhelming favourites to win this encounter, as they are a much stronger side and possess a top defensive unit. Caicedo, Enner Valencia, and Gonzalo Plata will hold the key for them in attack and midfield. Curaçao may have qualified for the World Cup, but they are clearly miles away from competing against the big sides. Hence, we believe this encounter could end in another huge defeat for them.
Score Prediction: Ecuador 4–0 Curaçao
