FIA partners with Siemens

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has announced a new partnership agreement with German conglomerate Siemens, which will see the latter become the Official Sustainability PLM Software Supplier of the former.

The partnership will see the FIA use Siemens Xcelerator’s portfolio for its sustainability goals across various motorsport championships, including Formula One. It will also use Siemens’ Excelerator to enable remote operations and subsequently reduce carbon footprint, which is in line with the FIA Environmental Strategy 2020-30.

Speaking about the deal, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA President, commented:

As innovation and sustainability are two of the most important guiding principles of the FIA, we are pleased to welcome Siemens as an official supplier and to adopt their sustainable software solutions across our work on Formula 1 and other motorsport activities.

Innovative collaborations such as this underline our commitment to becoming net zero carbon by 2030 and show how motorsport can be part of the solution to the challenges we face.

Cedrik Neike, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO Digital Industries, added:

Motorsport and sustainability sound like a contradiction. But it can be done using the right technologies. If motorsport achieves carbon neutrality, any industry can. With this collaboration, we plan to influence public perceptions and promote sustainable mobility. We are delighted to be selected as an official supplier to help the FIA meet its sustainability goals.

This is not the first time that Siemens and the FIA have partnered. The two teamed up previously in 2019 to work on rally safety and also in 2020 when Siemens helped the FIA’s Member Clubs by supplying evidence-based reports to help implement the federation’s mobility policies.
