This Group F encounter of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will be played between Brazilian outfit Fluminense and South Korea’s Ulsan HD on June 22 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Here are our preview and prediction for the game.
Fluminense played out a goalless draw against German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in their opening encounter of the Club World Cup.
Karim Adeyemi created Dortmund’s first chance when he waltzed into the box, but his cross narrowly evaded Serhou Guirassy. From then on, it was all Fluminense, who created the better chances, but Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel made some fine saves to deny the Brazilian side. In the 34th minute, Fluminense midfielder Matheus Martinelli missed by inches, and then Kobel made a superb reaction save to deny Jhon Arias a few minutes later.
Fluminense dominated the second half too, and Kobel came into play again in the 69th minute, stopping striker Everaldo’s powerful long-range strike and then saving the follow-up shot from Nonato to keep the scores level.
Coming to their next opponents, Ulsan HD lost their opening encounter against South African side Mamelodi Sundowns by a solitary goal from forward Iqraam Rayners in the first half.
It was a tightly contested opening half, with both teams creating decent chances, but it was the South African side who broke the deadlock in the 36th minute. Sundowns midfielder Lucas Ribeiro threaded a great through ball for Rayners to slot into the back of the net. Rayners could have had a hat-trick if not for a handball goal and a marginal offside decision going against him. Ulsan had their chances to equalise but couldn’t find the finish and went into the break a goal down.
Matías Lacava and Erick Farias had opportunities to level the game for Ulsan in the 81st minute, but Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams made a good save to deny the first attempt, and the backline helped clear the second. Tashreeq Matthews could have put the game to bed for Sundowns in the 88th minute, but he blazed his shot over the bar. The South Korean side couldn’t find the net and ended up losing their opening fixture of the Club World Cup. Now, they have it all to do against Fluminense.
Coming to this contest between Fluminense and Ulsan HD, the Brazilian team have the edge due to their better style of play, superior tactics, and higher-quality squad in comparison to the K League 1 team. Players to watch for in Fluminense include Jhon Arias, Thiago Silva, Everaldo, Hércules, and Nonato. However, no team can be taken lightly, and Ulsan do pose an attacking threat with players like Erick Farias and Seung-beom Ko.
Ultimately, we expect a comfortable win for Fluminense here.
