GodLike Esports secures PMGC invite

GodLike nets the final spot after the other teams failed to meet the travel requirements.

Indian esports organisation GodLike Esports has secured the PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2021 finals invite from India despite finishing fourth in the Battlegrounds Mobile India Series (BGIS).

The invite was meant for the winner of the BGIS, which was Skylightz Gaming, but the teams had certain travel requirements which they needed to meet to be able to go to Dubai to compete in the PMGC. It is reported that one of the players wasn’t able to apply for the passport as he had recently tested positive, while another player was a minor and not fully vaccinated yet. The failure to submit proper documents meant the next highest placed team would get a PMGC slot, but all the teams above GodLike Esports failed to meet the criteria.

Team SoloMid (TSM India) and Team XO also failed to meet the requirements to travel to Dubai for the tournament, which is scheduled to take place from January 21–23.

Battlegrounds Mobile India Series 2021 Grand finals had a prize pool of ?1,00,00,000. Skylightz Gaming won the BGIS, securing a total of 273 points ahead of TSM, which ended in second place with 270 points. TeamXO scored 244 points to come third, while tournament favourite GodLike Esports could only manage fourth with 230 points. Neyoo from GodLike Esports was named the MVP of the tournament, while Skylightz Gaming’s Saumraj was awarded The Lone Ranger. He also took The Rampage Freak award, while GodLike’s ZGod took home The Redeemer award.

As GodLike was the highest ranked team to submit the necessary documents within the time frame, it secured the official invite.

GodLike’s Neyoo spoke about the unexpected development, commenting:

It was a piece of unexpected news for us as well, just like everyone else. We are grateful that we will have the opportunity to represent India on the global stage. We will give our best and aim for the trophy. We want to make India proud.

It was a tough one to take. We gave it our best, but unfortunately, things did not go the way we wanted them. This is part and parcel of any sport. It’s an opportunity to learn and work harder for the next tournament.

GodLike will now travel to Dubai to face off against 15 of the best teams around the world as it aims to secure India’s first-ever global trophy in BGMI.

While GodLike and Brazil’s Alpha7 will compete from Dubai, six teams will play from Singapore, with the others playing remotely.
