Not many would’ve expected this match to go down to the wire, but that’s exactly what happened, with South Africa coming out victorious by only 18 runs in the end.
The Proteas batted first and put on a handsome display, with the experienced Quinton de Kock leading the way, scoring 74 runs in 40 balls. In a high-scoring innings, Saurabh Netravalkar proved his class with the ball once again, conceding just 21 runs and picking up two wickets.
The chase was always going to be tough, and the US failed to keep up with the asking rate around the halfway mark. They were 76/5 after 11.1 overs, and most would’ve considered the game over at this stage. However, Andries Gous and Harmeet Singh had other plans, as they put on 91 runs for the sixth wicket in quick time. Gous scored an incredible 80 off 47 balls to give his side a chance of winning the match with two overs remaining. But it was Kagiso Rabada’s brilliance in the 19th over that sealed the deal for South Africa. He conceded just two runs and picked up a wicket early on in the over to earn his side the two points.
First innings: South Africa 194/4 in 20 overs
Second innings: USA 176/6 in 20 overs
