Match 12 of the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is a repeat of the 2024 Asia Cup final held in July earlier this year.
India will want to avenge their Asia Cup defeat in this one, while Sri Lanka will be looking to get some points on the board after two losses.
India came back from the opening game loss against New Zealand with a win against arch-rivals Pakistan, with Arundhati Reddy shining with the ball. Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues got among the runs, though India couldn’t improve their poor net run rate too much.
The much-vaunted Indian batting lineup has been disappointing thus far, to say the least. The experienced Deepti Sharma has also performed poorly in the last two games, making this one not only a must-win encounter for India but one in which they need a statement victory.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka came into this World Cup with a lot of confidence after winning the Asia Cup, but they have been abysmal so far. They were shocked by Pakistan in the opener and then beaten by Australia, with their batting order collapsing in both the matches. That their captain and best batter, Chamari Athapaththu, failed in both innings with the bat is a major issue. Sri Lanka have to win this one if they want to stay in the competition.
This is a tough one to call as both India and Sri Lanka have been particularly poor with the bat, but the Women in Blue should pull off the win here as they have a more balanced side.
