Match 16 of the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will feature a Group B encounter between Bangladesh and South Africa.
South Africa will be in a buoyant mood after thrashing Scotland in their last fixture, while Bangladesh will look to repeat their opening-match exploits after losing to the West Indies.
Ahead of the game, here are our preview and predictions.
South Africa defeated Scotland with an 80-run margin in their last Group Stage game, with their top-order batters Laura Wolvaardt, Tazmin Brits, and Marizanne Kapp in ominous form. Their spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba has been particularly successful on the slow tracks of Dubai and Sharjah, having bagged wickets every game. Hence, the Proteas will be high on confidence coming into this encounter.
On the other hand, Bangladesh’s batting hasn’t really got going, which was again evident in the game against the West Indies as they struggled to a measly score of 103/8 in their 20 overs, which the Windies chased down by the 12th over.
If Bangladesh are to put up any kind of competition to South Africa, they need to bat far better and at least try and get to a score of 140+ to put pressure on the South African batting lineup if they get a chance to bat first.
Based on the form and quality of the two teams, South Africa should win this match barring an unexpected batting collapse.
Laura Wolvaardt (c), Tazmin Brits, Marizanne Kapp, Nigar Sultana (wk), Suné Luus, Shorna Akter, Chloe Tryon, Annerie Dercksen, Nadine de Clerk, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Ayabonga Khaka.
