With two wins from two games, England will be looking to move to the top of Group B when they face Scotland in their upcoming 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Group Stage encounter.
Ahead of the game, here are our preview and predictions.
England’s batting didn’t get up to much against Bangladesh, but their spinners bailed them out in a low-scoring encounter before they bounced back strongly against South Africa.
Starting off with the bowlers, it’s been Linsey Smith with the breakthroughs early on, with the spin trio of Charlie Dean, Sophie Ecclestone, and Sarah Glenn causing all sorts of trouble in the middle order, not only being economical in the spinner-friendly conditions but also regularly taking wickets.
Barring Danni Wyatt-Hodge, none of the other England batters got going against Bangladesh. Against South Africa, though, not only did Wyatt-Hodge get the runs at the top of the order, there were some crucial contributions from Nat Sciver-Brunt and Alice Capsey as well.
Scotland, on the other hand, have lost all their games thus far and will be heading home after the Group Stage. Playing for pride, they will want to go out on a high against their neighbours.
The Scots started the tournament with a narrow defeat to Bangladesh, restricting them to 119/7 as their spinners had a field day. Olivia Bell, Katherine Fraser, and Saskia Horley have been economical and among the wickets, but it’s the Scottish batting that has been a let-down. They failed to chase 119 in the opening game, with only Sarah Bryce getting past 20. Against the West Indies and South Africa, the Scottish batters had more poor outings.
On paper, and given their current form, England are by far the stronger side here and should sail towards another win.
Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Sarah Bryce, Saskia Horley, Kathryn Bryce, Heather Knight, Alisa Lister, Alice Capsey, Sophie Ecclestone, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Olivia Bell, Charlie Dean
