ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Match 8 Preview and Predictions

West Indies look to get on the board

Two teams who suffered big losses in their opening games will be looking to get on the board in the second game of the double-header on Sunday as West Indies take on the exciting Scottish team. As we gear up for the game, here’s our match preview and predictions.

Women’s T20 WC 2024 Match 8: Scotland vs West Indies | 19:30 IST, October 6

West Indies were hit hard by South Africa in their opening game, suffering a massive 10-wicket defeat and Hayley Matthews and co. will be looking to bounce back strong after a stomping from the Proteas. The Windies batting first, managed only 118 in their 20 overs, as  Nonkulueko Mlaba’s four wicket haul with Marizanne Kapp’s tight spell not letting the West Indies get away. Stafanie Taylor’s 44 was the only bright spot in a rather poor batting performance from the Windies and the bowlers had no luck either as they went wicketless. Hayley Matthews, Karishma Ramharack and Aaliyah Alleyne were economical but they just couldn’t get the breakthrough needed.

On the other side, Scotland faced Bangladesh in their opening game and the Scottish team started strong with an impressive bowling performance from Kathryn Bryce’s girls as they restricted Bangladesh to 119/7 in their 20 overs. It was a struggle with the bat though as no batter apart from Sarah Bryce got going with Bryce carrying her bat through the innings and managing to get to 49* which saw Scotland finish their 20 overs with 103/7 to go down by 16 runs.

Taking place at Dubai after the India – Pakistan match, we should be in for another low scoring game with West Indies as the favourites to pick up the win.

Fantasy XI: Sarah Bryce, Hayley Matthews, Kathryn Bryce, Saskia Horley, Deandra Dottin, Stafanie Taylor, Shemaine Campbelle, Olivia Bell, Rachel Slater, Afy Fletcher, Aaliyah Alleyne

Venue: Dubai

Winners Prediction: West Indies
