After winning the ODI series, India will now look to complete the double in the series with a home series win in the T20I series. The T20I series kicks off in Lucknow as the recently crowned Asian Games’ champions have landed from Japan and are ready to get going. West Indies meanwhile will be bolstered with a couple of big names returning to the squad.
Ahead of the 1st T20I between India and West Indies, here’s our match preview and predictions.
IND v WI 2026 | 1st T20II | 19:00 IST, October 6, 2026
The reigning world champions India are back in action, just a couple of days after their Asian Games gold medal win against Pakistan. Shreyas Iyer’s boys are on a nine-game win streak in T20I with the Indian squad boasting of a well-rounded team. The batting lineup is one of the most explosive batting lineups going around with the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer himself. The middle order has depth and firepower in the likes of Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel along with Naman Dhir, who has proven to be a handy lower order batter in the recently concluded ODIs.
With Jasprit Bumrah rested again, the seam bowling attack is a bit inexperienced with Arshdeep Singh leading the attack. The pace options for India are Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav along with Nitish Kumar Reddy, who is proving to be India’s go-to allrounder in Hardik Pandya’s absence. The spin department will be led by Kuldeep Yadav along with the likes of Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi and Naman Dhir while Abhishek Sharma has proven recently that he is more than handy with the ball, giving the team management another bowling option.
The West Indies meanwhile have a much more experienced and stronger squad in the T20I as a couple of big names have returned for the T20Is. Shai Hope will be leading the squad with the likes of Shimron Hetmyer, Sherfane Rutherford and Rovman Powell coming in to bolster their batting unit. The visitors are known for their all-rounders having had multiple all-rounders in their teams for a long time and they have a host of them in their squad as well. Keemo Paul, Romario Shepherd, Akeal Hosein all are handy with both bat and ball while Shamar Joseph will be the lookout seamer along with the likes of Matt Forde and the spin attack of Hosein and Gudakesh Motie.
A high-scoring ground like most grounds in the country, the Lucknow strip will provide a lot of runs to both teams filled with big hitting stars. Given that they have just landed from Japan a couple of days ago and don’t have a very deep and experienced bowling unit, the West Indies are going to start a close contenders but at home, we give the home team just a slight advantage with their batting firepower and depth.
