After winning the ODI series, India will now look to complete the series double by winning the T20I series, which kicks off in Lucknow.

The recently crowned Asian Games champions have landed from Japan and are ready to get going. The West Indies, meanwhile, will be bolstered with a couple of big names returning to the squad.

For the first T20I between India and the West Indies, here we present our preview and predictions.

IND v WI 2026 | 1st T20I | 19:00 IST, October 6, 2026

The reigning world champions are back in action just a couple of days after their gold medal win against Pakistan in Japan. Shreyas Iyer & Co are on a nine-game win streak in T20Is, with the Indian squad boasting a well-rounded team.

India’s batting line-up is one of the most explosive units going around thanks to the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan, and captain Iyer. The middle order has depth and firepower through the likes of Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, and Naman Dhir, the last of whom has proven to be a handy lower-order batter in the recently concluded ODI series.

With Jasprit Bumrah rested again, India’s seam bowling attack is left a bit inexperienced, with Arshdeep Singh leading the attack. Other pace options for India are Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav along with Nitish Kumar Reddy, who is proving to be India’s go-to all-rounder in Hardik Pandya’s absence.

The spin department will be led by Kuldeep Yadav along with the likes of Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, and Naman Dhir, while Abhishek Sharma has proved recently that he is more than handy with the ball, giving the team management another option.

The West Indies, meanwhile, have a much more experienced and stronger squad for the T20I series, as a couple of big names have returned.

Shai Hope will be leading the squad, with the likes of Shimron Hetmyer, Sherfane Rutherford, and Rovman Powell coming in to bolster the batting unit. The visitors are known for their all-rounders, having had several of them in their winning teams for a long time. Keemo Paul, Romario Shepherd, and Akeal Hosein all are handy with both bat and ball, while Shamar Joseph will be their lookout seamer alongside the likes of Matt Forde and the spin attack of Hosein and Gudakesh Motie.

Like most other grounds in the country, Lucknow is a high-scoring venue, and the strip will provide a lot of runs to both teams who boast several big-hitting stars.

Given that they have just landed from Japan and don’t have a very deep and experienced bowling unit, India will be handing the Windies some advantage. That said, we give the home team just a slight advantage given their batting firepower and depth.

Fantasy XI: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (c), Abhishek Sharma (vc), Shai Hope (wk), Ishan Kishan, Shimron Hetmyer, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Rovman Powell, Axar Patel, Akeal Hosein, Arshdeep Singh, Shamar Joseph

Venue: Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow
Winners Prediction: India
