IPL 2025 | Match 16: LSG vs MI | Preview and Predictions

Match 16 of the 2025 Indian Premier League season brings us a clash between the Lucknow Super Giants and the Mumbai Indians at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on April 4.

For the game, here are our preview and predictions.

Indian Premier League 2025 | Match 16: Lucknow Super Giants vs Mumbai Indians | 19:30 IST, April 4

LSG played the Punjab Kings in their last fixture. Batting first, they lost Mitchell Marsh for a duck, but contributions from Nicholas Pooran (44 off 30), Ayush Badoni (41 off 33), and Abdul Samad (27 off 12) helped them to a fighting total of 171/7 in 20 overs. For PBKS, Arshdeep Singh registered the best bowling figures of 3/43 in his four overs.

In response, the Kings lost an early wicket in opener Priyansh Arya, but LSG couldn’t capitalise on it as Prabhsimran Singh (69 off 34) ran riot against their bowlers. Captain Shreyas Iyer (52* off 30) and Nehal Wadhera (43* off 25) then guided their side to a comfortable win.

The Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, beat the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in their last match to get going this season, having started with two defeats. Deepak Chahar dealt KKR an early blow with two wickets before rookie pacer Ashwani Kumar delivered an inspiring spell (4/24) to restrict the defending champions to a paltry 116 with four overs to spare.

In response, the MI batters chased the total down at the cost of two wickets in 12.5 overs, with opener Ryan Rickelton (62* off 41) and Suryakumar Yadav (27* off 9) completing the chase.

The LSG top order has been in dangerous form, with Marsh and Pooran proving capable of taking down totals almost single-handedly. If they get to bat first and their main batters get going, MI will find it very hard to chase down a huge total. However, LSG’s inexperienced bowling attack is something they’ll keep in mind. Given their in-form and explosive top-order batters, we give LSG a slight edge for this one.

Fantasy XI: Mitchell Marsh, Rohit Sharma, Nicholas Pooran, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya (c), David Miller, Rishabh Pant (wk), Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Ravi Bishnoi, Ashwani Kumar

Venue: Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow
Winners Prediction: Lucknow Super Giants
